Starachowice combines industrial heritage with a viewpoint on the blue “Śladami górników” walking trail and activities at Port Lubianka. The Muzeum Przyrody i Techniki im. Jana Pazdura is centered around a technological ironworks complex, preserved as a complete line of ironworks facilities. There are also STAR-brand trucks and paleontological traces. The options range from the history of technology to landscape views and water sports. This is a useful distinction when planning your trip: would you like to focus more on museum exhibits, views or activities on the water?

Industrial history, vehicles and paleontology

The Zespół Wielkopiecowy at the Muzeum Przyrody i Techniki dates from the late 19th century. It has been preserved as a complete technological line of ironworks facilities. The focus is therefore on an interconnected complex rather than a single piece of equipment.

The collection includes trucks produced by Fabryka Samochodów Ciężarowych STAR. The vehicles mentioned include the Popemobile and the STAR 266R, which took part in the 10th Paris–Dakar Rally in 1988. The vehicles offer a distinct perspective on the history of technology: alongside the preserved ironworks complex, the development of commercial vehicles is also in focus, with a specific connection to the STAR 266R’s rally history.

Another facet of the museum is the paleontological exhibition in the historic building of the former boiler house, now called “Kino Kotłownia.” It features animal tracks from the Permian, Triassic and Jurassic periods; the animals lived in the area of today’s Świętokrzyskie Mountains. The exhibition is part of the museum. Check whether it is currently on display before your visit.

The “Śladami górników” walking trail and its viewpoint

The blue “Śladami górników” walking trail starts at the car park on ul. Marszałka Piłsudskiego, next to the entrance to the Muzeum Przyrody i Techniki. It first follows ul. Marszałka Piłsudskiego and then turns onto ul. Krywki. This makes the start of the route easy to follow: the car park and the first stretches of road provide orientation before the trail continues.

There is a viewing platform along the walking trail. From there, you can see the main ridge of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, including Łysica, whose elevation is given as 612 metres above sea level, and Święty Krzyż. This walking option combines a specific starting point in Starachowice with a named landscape destination. If you are choosing between a museum visit and a walk, you can decide whether to focus on technical collections or include views of the mountains in your travel plans.

Water activities and a historic railway

At Port Lubianka in Starachowice, sailboats, boats, pedal boats and kayaks take to the water; wakeboarding is also available. There are different types of water activities to choose from. The specific equipment may change. If you want to plan around a particular boat or piece of equipment, check availability in advance.

The Starachowicka Kolej Wąskotorowa is another local attraction with a clear historical connection: on May 8, 2004, it resumed tourist services on the Starachowice Wschodnie Wąskotorowe–Lipie route. If you would like to include a train ride in your current travel plans, check the latest timetable.
