Podole is of particular interest to travellers who want to focus on cycling or fishing. Several cycling routes run through the village; there is also a four-hectare pond complex suitable for relaxation and fishing. A nearby cultural and historical point of interest is in Ptkanów; the wider travel destination of Opatów offers further architectural and historical attractions.
Cycling: Circular Route and Other Routes
The red cycling route runs from Opatów via Podole, Jacentów and Sadowie, and back to Opatów. It is considered scenic and not particularly difficult; just under 90 percent of its length is on asphalt. In places, it follows field and gravel tracks, and a significant part of the route crosses open terrain. Take extra water in hot weather. Check the route and local conditions before setting off.
The black-marked Rowerowy Szlak Architektury Obronnej also passes through Podole. Its name refers to its architectural focus; according to its route, the Transwojewódzki szlak rowerowy Berlin–Lwów also runs through the village. The red loop, with its route via Opatów, Podole, Jacentów and Sadowie, is a distinct option among these routes.
Pond Complex and Fishing
The pond complex in Podole covers four hectares and is suitable for relaxation and fishing. This offers a different focus alongside the cycling routes. When looking for somewhere to stay, you can decide whether cycling or fishing should shape your visit. This way, your choice of location reflects the activities that matter to you on your trip, rather than automatically trying to fit different interests into a single day’s itinerary.
Church in Nearby Ptkanów
In nearby Ptkanów, the parish church of St Giles stands on a hill. It was built in the Gothic style at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. This adds an architectural and historical point of interest to the surrounding area. If you would like to include architectural history as well as cycling and fishing, it provides another subject to consider when planning your trip.
Cultural History in Opatów
The wider travel destination of Opatów is home to further architectural and historical attractions. Brama Warszawska is the only one of Opatów’s four historic town gates to have survived. It was built of stone between 1520 and 1530 on a square ground plan. The Collegiate Church of St Martin in Opatów is a Romanesque building with later alterations and details from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
A specific point of interest in church history is the Lament Opatowski: the bas-relief on the tomb of Chancellor Krzysztof Szydłowiecki, on the left side of the collegiate church’s transept, depicts 40 figures mourning his death. It is one of two reliefs on the tomb. The Museum of Geodesy and Cartography in Opatów preserves surveying and cartographic instruments from the pre-digital era. Its collection includes nearly 1,000 exhibits, including an extensive collection of cadastral maps.
Craft production is also part of Opatów’s cultural attractions: Krówkarenka offers workshops on making the “Krówka Opatowska” sweets. Check before your trip whether a workshop is taking place.
