Końskie is a county town in the northern part of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. A walking trail through the town’s streets passes historic buildings, monuments and commemorative plaques. Sielpia offers a different setting, with a reservoir, sandy beach and pine forests. This lets you include both the town’s history and waterside activities in your travel plans.

Exploring on foot and by bike

“Szlakiem zabytków i miejsc pamięci” is a circular walking trail that runs through the streets of Końskie. Along the route are historic buildings, monuments and commemorative plaques. The walk brings together different aspects of the town’s history and culture of remembrance. If you would like to explore Końskie on foot, the trail offers a clearly defined route.

There are three Nordic walking routes in Sielpia. You can borrow special poles free of charge from the local Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji; check that they are available again before your trip. The 45-kilometre “Rowerem dookoła Końskich” circular cycling route starts and ends in Sielpia. Trail surface conditions may change, so it is worth checking the latest conditions before setting out.

Sielpia: reservoir, beach and kayaking

Sielpia is a holiday resort on a reservoir on the Czarna Konecka, surrounded by pine forests. The reservoir has a large supervised sandy beach, as well as rental facilities for watersports equipment and watercraft. Beach and rental operations are seasonal; the range of watersports equipment may also vary by season.

Organised kayaking trips start in Sielpia and follow the Czarna Konecka for about six kilometres to Jacentów, beyond the bridge. The trips are seasonal and must be booked in advance. The kayaking route passes through protected Natura 2000 areas. There are different ways to enjoy the water: the seasonal beach and rental facilities at the reservoir, or an organised route along the river.

Architectural history in Końskie and Modliszewice

The Kolegiata św. Mikołaja i Wojciecha is in the centre of Końskie. Its present-day appearance took shape through alterations made in 1492–1520 and 1902–1903. These two widely separated building phases are part of the history of this church.

The palace and park complex in Końskie includes palace wings with pavilions, a gloriette, a Greek temple, an Egyptian orangery, a bower and a chapel. It also features the “Domek Wnuczętów”, an enclosure system flanked by towers, and a park with historic trees. The names Greek temple and Egyptian orangery alone illustrate the variety of elements in this complex.

In Modliszewice, the Dwór obronny stands on an island bordered by a pond to the south and a moat to the north. The fortified manor is one of the attractions along the “Rowerowego Szlaku Architektury Obronnej po Województwie Świętokrzyskim”. Its position between the pond and moat creates a striking contrast with the churches and palace buildings in Końskie.
