Busko-Zdrój offers several clear starting points for a trip: a historic landscaped park, a gallery of contemporary art and marked hiking trails of varying lengths. The architectural history of the Marconi Sanatorium and a chapel in the spa park add to these attractions. When choosing accommodation, it helps to decide in advance which of these highlights you want to shape your stay.

Spa Park: Design and Activities

Spa Park is a historic landscaped park covering more than 14 hectares. In the 19th century, Henryk Marconi laid out the park, while gardener Ignacy Hanusz designed its green spaces. These two roles describe different aspects of the site: the park’s creation and the design of its green spaces. The park contains the “Aleja Marzeń” promenade, tennis courts, a concert shell and a playground. It is suitable for walking, jogging and Nordic walking, so you can tailor your visit to the kind of exercise you prefer.

Another attraction is located in the new spa park: a graduation tower was built there in 2020. It functions as a natural inhalatorium: brine flows over walls filled with blackthorn branches and evaporates intensively. Unlike the historic landscaped park, the focus here is on the structure of the inhalatorium.

Art and Architectural History

The Buska Galeria Sztuki Willa Polonia displays contemporary art as well as works by local artists. Its four exhibition rooms can host exhibitions and events such as meetings, talks and workshops. This means the venue can be used for more than exhibitions alone. Check the current opening hours before planning a specific visit to the gallery.

The architecture also offers specific historical points of interest. The former Łazienki building, now the Marconi Sanatorium, was designed by the Italian architect Henryk Marconi and opened in 1836. The sanatorium contains a concert hall whose doors are adorned with statues of Orpheus and Eurydice. The neo-Gothic St. Anne’s Chapel in the eastern part of the spa park has a different architectural history: it was built in 1884 at the initiative of Dr. Aleksander Dobrzański and with the support of local residents. Henryk Marconi is thus associated with both the park and the former Łazienki building; the chapel adds a neo-Gothic religious building to this view of the area’s architecture.

Hiking Trails by Length

Two hiking trails with different distances are described. A 5.5-kilometre black trail runs from Busko-Zdrój to Zbrodzice. The red trail is 27 kilometres long and connects the spa towns of Busko and Solec. The difference in length offers a concrete comparison of the planned distance: a route to Zbrodzice versus a longer connection between two spa towns. Before hiking the red trail, check the current conditions along the route locally.
