Jeleśnia can be explored from two very different perspectives: a yellow-marked hiking route with a sequence of named peaks, and tangible evidence of the town’s history. The trail starts at Jeleśnia railway station and leads to Gachowizna; the Stara Karczma, the Regionalna Izba Pracy Twórczej and a memorial each add their own cultural and historical dimension. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, these themes can shape your plans: should a longer hike be the focus of the day, or would you rather explore individual cultural topics?

Hiking trail with named peaks

The yellow-marked trail runs from Jeleśnia railway station via Janikowa Grapa (737 m), Garlejów Groń (730 m), Zwaliska (757 m) and Bąków (Czeretnik, 776 m) to Gachowizna (758 m). The elevations do not simply increase: after Janikowa Grapa, Garlejów Groń is lower; the figures then rise for Zwaliska and Bąków, before Gachowizna is listed at 758 metres. Of the points named, Bąków (Czeretnik) is the highest. At Bąków, Czeretnik is given in brackets as an alternative name; in this trail sequence, both names refer to the point listed at 776 metres. This makes it possible to distinguish the individual stops along the route.

The stated walking time is four hours for the outward journey and three hours and thirty minutes for the descent. The difference is half an hour; the times refer to the two directions and should be considered separately when planning your day. The several-hour hike is therefore a focus in its own right, rather than just a short link between individual sights. If you are planning the hike, check local trail conditions in advance.

Local history, folk art and remembrance

The Stara Karczma in Jeleśnia dates from the second half of the 18th century. This date gives the historic building a clear timeframe. The Regionalna Izba Pracy Twórczej offers a different perspective: works by the late folk artists Michał Boczek and Józef Mentel are displayed there. Those interested in folk art will find a cultural topic here that differs from the history of a building.

A memorial to the airmen who died in a plane crash stands next to the municipal office in Jeleśnia, on ul. Plebańska. It was donated by Jan Suchoń, an eyewitness to the crash who was ten years old in 1944. The memorial is dedicated to the airmen; Suchoń’s role adds a specific biographical detail to this act of remembrance.

The different themes also lend themselves to planning in different ways: the hiking route comes with a sequence of trail points and walking times, while the cultural topics cover architectural history, works by two folk artists and a memorial. If your time is limited, you can therefore first decide whether the several-hour hike should define your stay or whether particular aspects of local history should take priority. This lets you choose Jeleśnia based on the topics actually described and plan your stay accordingly.
