Cisiec brings together the Soła River, a church with a documented history, and several routes. The Soła divides the village into Mały Cisiec and Duży Cisiec; both the Velo Soła cycling route and the Trakt Cesarski pass through Cisiec. Other points of interest include the Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe, a stop on the Szlak Papieski, and a private museum in Mały Cisiec. Palenica, one of the peaks around Cisiec, adds a scenic dimension to the area.
The river and surrounding landscape
The Soła flows through Cisiec and divides the village into Mały Cisiec and Duży Cisiec. The river is therefore not only part of the local landscape, but also the geographical boundary between the two named parts of the village. At 687 m above sea level, Palenica is one of the peaks surrounding Cisiec. These two features show different scales of the local landscape: the Soła divides Cisiec itself, while Palenica is part of the surrounding landscape.
Church history and culture
The Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe is known as the “Church of the Miracle of One Day.” It was built on November 5 and 6, 1972—despite the bans imposed by the party authorities of the time—and finally legalized in 1979. Its construction and final legalization thus took place at different moments in history: 1972 marks the building work, while 1979 marks the subsequent legal step. This sequence makes the history of the building a notable cultural topic in Cisiec. The church is also a stop on the Szlak Papieski, bringing church history and a named route stop together in one place.
The private Jan Talik “Ocalenie” Museum is also located in Mały Cisiec and is worth a visit for its unusual character. It offers a distinct cultural focus alongside the church’s history. If you would like to visit the museum, we recommend checking in advance about visiting arrangements.
Cycling and walking
The Velo Soła cycling route passes through Cisiec. The route is about 40 km long and runs from Rajcza to Żywiec; Cisiec is at kilometer 13. The entire route follows paved paths. These details serve different purposes: the approximate total length describes the connection between the endpoints, the kilometer marker shows Cisiec’s position along the route, and the surface information applies to the entire route. The Velo Soła therefore offers a concrete way to include Cisiec in a longer cycling trip.
The Trakt Cesarski offers a different option for walks: it runs through Cisiec, and a 4 km walking route has been created along one section. The distances refer to different route options: the Velo Soła is about 40 km long, while the four kilometers refer to the walking route along part of the Trakt. This makes it easy to distinguish between a longer cycling connection and a walking route with a specified distance, depending on which kind of outing you would like to make during your stay.
