Radlin combines a route exploring local industrial history with places connected to workers’ and sports history. There are also specific options for active pursuits: a six-lane swimming pool, the brine graduation tower, and a walking and cycling path in Jordanowski Park.
Workers’ History and Architecture
The Szlak Emmy i Marcela is a route in Radlin where visitors can discover the town through its local industrial history and the people who worked at the mine, coking plant, and power station. Kolonia Emma adds a workers’ housing estate to this historical perspective: it was built between 1897 and 1913 beside the “Emma” mine.
The buildings of Kolonia Emma on what is now ul. A. Mielęckiego have retained their original appearance. All the houses were built of red brick and have small front gardens by their entrances. The construction period, building materials, and front gardens offer a tangible sense of this form of housing and its specific connection to the mine.
The “Sokolnia” tells another chapter of local history. For more than 90 years, residents have associated the building with gymnastics, particularly artistic gymnastics. It was officially opened on 6 and 7 August 1927 and was the first gymnasium of the Towarzystwo „Sokół” in Upper Silesia. Thus, alongside industrial history, Radlin also highlights the history of sport and a building with a precisely documented date.
Swimming and Outdoor Activities
The large pool at the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji in Radlin measures 25 m × 12.5 m and has six swimming lanes. Its deepest point is 1.85 m and its shallowest is 1.3 m. The pool also has an 80 m water slide and a jacuzzi tub located inside the large pool. The tub can accommodate five people at a time, and the water temperature is 35 °C. This gives a clear sense of the different features of the swimming facilities: lanes, a slide, and a warmer pool within the complex.
Jordanowski Park is another place to walk or cycle. The park opened in 2024 and has a walking and cycling path from ul. Hallera in the centre of Radlin to the monument to the victims of the Reden shaft. The route therefore has a clearly named starting point and a specific destination.
Brine Graduation Tower and Summer Music
The brine graduation tower is in the northern part of Radlin, on ul. Wypandów, right on the border with Rybnik. It is located in a green corner along the Szlak Emmy i Marcela and the cycling route between Radlin PKP and Zalew Rybnicki. Historically, it was the first salt graduation tower, or brine graduation facility, on an Upper Silesian industrial site and one of the first two in the whole of Silesia.
Recurring music events organized by the Miejski Ośrodek Kultury w Radlinie take place at the graduation tower in summer. As no current event calendar is provided here, check the specific dates before your trip. This lets you include the music events in your plans without assuming when they take place.
Radlin’s attractions range from the mining settlement and sports history to swimming, cycling, and summer music events. Which ones matter for your stay depends on whether you are more interested in architecture and history or in leisure activities.
