Świerklaniec offers a clear focus for a stay: the historic park, with its history, buildings and trails leading to different destinations. When planning, you can first decide whether you are mainly interested in the park’s history, architecture or outdoor activities. These themes complement one another without needing to be combined into a single itinerary.

Renaissance Park and Landscape

The first Renaissance park in Świerklaniec was laid out between 1670 and 1680 by the Henckel von Donnersmarck family beside the castle. The landscape park is classified as a first-category monument. Its history therefore dates back to the 17th century; its monument classification is a separate point of interest for anyone interested in the area’s historic heritage.

Numerous monumental oaks, horse chestnuts and pines grow in the park. The “Three Graces” fountain still stands on the central terrace. The central pond also has a specific use: it is designated for fishing. Local access rules may change, so check them before your visit.

Buildings and Historic Functions

The church in Świerklaniec Park was built in the neo-Gothic style between 1895 and 1897. A cloister connects it to a burial chapel whose floor plan is based on a Greek cross. Among others, Count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck was buried in the mausoleum in Świerklaniec. The church, burial chapel and mausoleum thus offer different points of entry for exploring the area’s religious and family history.

The Dom Kawalerów building in Pałac Kawalera served a different historical purpose. It was built between 1903 and 1906 to accommodate distinguished guests. Together with the church, built a few years earlier, it illustrates two distinct functions: sacred architecture on the one hand, and guest accommodation on the other. Anyone interested in Świerklaniec’s history can consider these functions separately rather than grouping all the buildings under the general heading of castle history.

Walking Trails and Routes

A walking trail through the historic palace park leads to the Kozłowa Góra Reservoir. This reservoir lies on the southeastern edge of the Świerklaniec municipality; it was created by damming the Brynica. It is also known as Zbiornik Świerklaniec, Zbiornik Kozłowa Góra and Jezioro Świerklaniec. These different names refer to the same body of water, which is named as the trail’s destination.

A black hiking trail in the park leads to a church. A cycling route starts and ends in the car park in front of the historic park gate. The routes therefore differ in type and destination: the walking trail leads to the reservoir, the hiking trail to a church, and the cycling route starts and ends at the park entrance. Trail conditions and signage may change, so check route information before setting out.

Other Activities and Guided Tours

The park has a canoe landing and a mini zoo. If you would like to include these activities in your visit, check in advance whether they are currently operating. This will help you adapt your plans to what is actually available on site without making your park visit revolve around just one activity.

The WRAZIDLOK association also organizes guided tours at Pałac Kawalera on weekends. The schedule may change, so check the dates before your visit. This lets you include the tour as a separate item in your itinerary without assuming unrestricted access or fixed times.
