Koziegłowy combines medieval history, a distinctive craft tradition, and opportunities for cycling and hiking. The town was laid out between the small Sarni Stok and Boży Stok streams. This offers several perspectives for planning your trip: the historic settlement, its cultural heritage, and outdoor activities. If you are considering a stay, you can first decide whether local history, crafts, or exercise is the main draw.

Castle, Churches and Historic Traces

The castle and fortified settlement of Koziegłowy are a medieval monument of historical, archaeological, and scenic value. Archaeological investigations uncovered the remains of a gate tower and a residential tower in 2022. Their names make two distinct functions clear: a gate tower is part of a site's entrance, while a residential tower served as living quarters. This makes the castle's history tangible not only through its medieval setting but also through specific structural features.

The Church of the Holy Body and Saint Mary Magdalene was built in the 15th century; its surviving presbytery is part of the present-day church. It includes an Ogrójec, a garden chapel containing wooden sculptures of the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist. In the northern outskirts, a hospital chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara was built in 1670. St. Barbara's Church contains a Renaissance altar and a historic painting of Saint Barbara. The building history, sculptures, and historic furnishings offer different ways to explore the town's religious heritage.

Crafts and Outdoor Trails

Craft history also shapes Koziegłowy. In the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, the town's craft centre was known throughout Poland for jewellery and household items made from aspen shavings. Osikowa Dolina also runs year-round craft workshops at its premises in Koziegłowy for children, young people, and adults. This brings together a historic specialism and a current creative offering for different age groups.

For an active stay, two routes can be distinguished by mode of travel and course. The yellow-marked Szlak Żarecki is a 21 km hiking trail that passes through Koziegłowy. The 23 km Przewodziszowice–Koziegłowy cycle route ends at the town square. Their lengths are similar, but the routes differ: one passes through Koziegłowy as a hiking trail, while the other is a cycle route ending at the square. This lets you decide in advance whether you would rather focus on a hike or a bike ride. Koziegłowy Reservoir is located in the town's recreational areas and adds to the area's attractions for visitors and landscape lovers.

Planning Your Stay

A regional tourism portal offers an audio tour of the historic centre. It focuses on the history of the town centre and complements the architectural and religious themes with another way to explore the town. The Tourist Information Centre is located at the Municipal and Communal Cultural Promotion Centre, 28 Żarecka Street.

The main appeal of Koziegłowy as a destination is clear: it combines castle and church history with crafts and designated hiking and cycling trails.
