In Lubliniec, buildings from different periods stand alongside places that commemorate Edith Stein. There are also marked cycling routes and a Nordic walking trail that explore different directions and landscapes. In the district of Kokotek, ponds and activities that vary with the seasons add to the picture. You can tailor your stay to the things that interest you most: city history, outdoor exercise or time by the water.
City History and Landmark Buildings
The historic center grew out of the medieval town founded under German law. The square market bears the name Plac Konrada Mańki; much of the city’s streets are lined with 19th-century houses. This layout gives a walk through the center a historical setting, while Lubliniec’s history extends beyond any single period.
The wooden Church of St. Anne on ul. Św. Anny is in the center. It was built in 1653 and reconstructed between 1996 and 2004; it has also undergone extensive renovation. Its interior is Baroque. The Church of St. Nicholas tells a different architectural story: its present form took shape over several phases of construction and remodeling. An originally Gothic building was followed by a Baroque one, which incorporated older walls. These two churches reveal different stages in the city’s architectural development.
Places Commemorating Edith Stein
The Muzeum Pro Memoria Edith Stein is housed in a tenement that once belonged to Edith Stein’s grandparents, Adelajda and Salomon Courant. In Steblów, the parish church is dedicated to Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross—Edith Stein—and was elevated to the status of a sanctuary in December 2021. Together, these two places offer different ways to learn about Edith Stein and her story.
Another historic site is the Jewish cemetery on ul. 11 Listopada. It bears witness to the Jewish community’s two-hundred-year presence in this Silesian city. Alongside churches and homes, the cemetery reveals another facet of the local past.
Cycling and Walking Routes
Two marked cycling routes differ in their courses. The blue Turystyczna Nr. 852 cycling route runs from Lipie, a district of Lublin, through the center of Lubliniec to Lubliniec-Wymyślacz. The yellow Turystyczna Nr. 439 starts at the market square and heads towards Steblów, first going north along al. Solidarności. One route therefore passes through the center, while the other starts at the market and leads towards Steblów.
Nordic Walking Route No. 4 runs through the forests south of Lubliniec and passes the Łopian forest ranger’s lodge. There are rest areas and information boards along the route, with guidance on preparation and Nordic walking exercises. If you would rather combine the city’s history with outdoor activity, choose between the marked cycling routes and this forest trail according to your preferred focus.
Kokotek, Water and Leisure
Kokotek is a district of Lubliniec with numerous ponds suited to spending time by the water and enjoying water sports. Activities also vary by season: in summer, you can hike, cycle and ride horses there; in winter, you can go cross-country skiing. At the Silesiana and Ustronie Leśne recreation centers, tourists can use boats, pedal boats and kayaks.
The Wodny Plac Zabaw in Lubliniec is open seasonally from June 1 to August 31, seven days a week. Weather or operational conditions may change the schedule, so check it before your visit. A renovated sensory trail is next to a maze. Along the barefoot path, the surfaces alternate between bark, pine cones and stones. The pétanque court at the sports and recreation center is free and open to the public; it can be used by individuals as well as organized groups.
