Jaworzno has many different sides: at Arboretum Park Gródek, water and diverse habitats take center stage, while GEOsfera focuses on the geology of a former limestone quarry. There are also parks, playgrounds and a cycling route that runs from Zalew Sosina to Park Zielona. Which of these aspects shapes your trip depends on whether you are more interested in nature, geological history, relaxing in green spaces or a bike ride.

Habitats and Water at Arboretum Park Gródek

Arboretum Park Gródek encompasses a mosaic of different habitats: heat-loving dry grasslands, meadows and rocky habitats, as well as wetlands and bodies of water. Coniferous forests and oak-hornbeam forests complete the picture. Rather than a uniform park landscape, you will find a range of natural areas, each contributing a different aspect of the arboretum.

The two reservoirs also each have their own distinctive features. A winding path runs through the Wydra Reservoir, offering views of the surrounding area from the water. The Orka Reservoir is 18.5 meters deep; two sunken excavators and a ship lie beneath the water. It is a diving site with a private dive center. If you plan to go diving, check in advance whether the center is currently operating.

Gródek therefore offers a range of points of interest: the Wydra Reservoir provides views of the surroundings from the water, while the Orka Reservoir is notable for its depth and sunken objects. The habitats, meanwhile, give the arboretum a diversity of landscapes that extends beyond its bodies of water.

Fossils and Nature Education at GEOsfera

The Ośrodek Edukacji Ekologiczno-Geologicznej GEOsfera is located in Jaworzno, in the basin of the former Sadowa Góra Triassic limestone quarry. The rock layers contain numerous fossil skeletal remains of echinoderms, mollusks, cephalopods and fish. They also include bones of a 230-million-year-old Nothosaurus. The groups of fossils and the great age of these bones make geological history a defining theme of this site.

Nature education is one of GEOsfera’s main objectives: knowledge is to be conveyed through hands-on experience and environmentally responsible behavior encouraged. This offers a different perspective for planning your trip than the park and waterscapes of Gródek. Here, the focus is on geological connections and sharing knowledge about nature.

Parks, Playgrounds and City History

Park Angielski is a recreation and park area covering more than 20 hectares. Paths wind through varied vegetation described as blooming and colorful. The park’s size and paths give it a character distinct from that of a single viewpoint or a narrowly defined nature theme.

Jaworznickie Planty in the city center has a water playground and a conventional playground for younger children. A model of the former “Jacek Rudolf” mine is also located there. The Planty thus bring together play facilities and a connection to the former mine in one place. If you want to include several interests in your days, this focus is distinct from the geology at GEOsfera or the habitats at the arboretum.

A Cycling Route with Clearly Named Stops

Red Cycling Route No. 481 runs from Zalew Sosina through Jaworzno’s eastern districts to the city center, ending at Park Zielona. Its route offers another perspective on the city: unlike the individual park and geology themes, this option is organized around a route. For cycling enthusiasts, the starting point, passage through the eastern districts and destination are all clearly specified.

When choosing what to focus on, you can therefore distinguish between nature observation, geology, parks and cycling. The facts about each place offer different answers to the question of what interests you in Jaworzno: diverse habitats, fossils from the former quarry, recreational areas within the city or a cycling route with a specified course.
