A stay in Niewiesze can be shaped by different interests: the chapel and cross, the Słoneczna Plaża bathing area, or the routes through the village. The differences are concrete: the buildings focus on architecture and historical dates, the waterside on the layout of the bathing area and its facilities, and the routes on their markings or course.
Chapel and cross: architectural forms and historical dates
The chapel at 16 Pyskowicka Street dates from the mid-19th century. It has a square floor plan and a hipped roof. A wooden, octagonal roof turret with open sides sits on top. Its pyramid-shaped spire is topped with a sphere and a metal cross. A crowning cornice and a frieze of semicircular ornamentation run along the plastered façade. The floor plan, roof structure and façade decoration are therefore three distinct architectural features that characterize the building.
A large cross dating from 1909 stands at 1 Toszecka Street. Its niche contains a figure of Mary in a white gown and blue mantle; the front bears a plant motif in relief. Here, the niche, figure and ornament are the main features, whereas the chapel is described primarily by its roof and façade design. The dates also differ: the chapel dates from the mid-19th century, while the cross is dated 1909.
For a broader historical perspective, Niewiesze’s history reaches back to the 12th century. It is one of the oldest places in the Rudziniec municipality. This long local history provides a different point of reference from the dates of the two individual buildings.
Słoneczna Plaża on the Pławniowice Reservoir
The Słoneczna Plaża bathing area is on the Pławniowice Reservoir in the Niewiesze district, near Plażowa Street. Its land and water areas are marked in different ways: four information boards mark the land area, while buoys mark the bathing area in the water. There is also a children’s pool. Thus, the boards on land and the buoys in the water are two different ways to find your bearings around the site.
The bathing area has sanitary facilities, a car park, bicycle racks, a beach volleyball court, barbecue areas with water points, changing rooms, a food and drink outlet, and water sports equipment rental. If you are counting on a particular service, check that it is currently available before your visit. This lets you take the facilities into account when planning without relying on any one offering being operational.
Two routes through Niewiesze
The red-marked Szlak Ziemi Gliwickiej (Gliwice Region Trail) passes through Niewiesze. Route 409 starts and ends in Toszek and passes through the districts of Słupsko, Niewiesze and Bycina. The red marking is a distinctive feature of the first route; the start and end points and the districts it passes through are also specified for Route 409. If you plan to take Route 409, check its current markings before setting out.
This gives you different starting points for planning: the chapel and cross represent specific aspects of local architecture and history, Słoneczna Plaża offers a waterside stay, and the routes take you through Niewiesze. You can weigh up which of these appeals to you most by considering the details of each.
