In Kłomnice, historical traces range from a wooden church dating to the mid-14th century to a cemetery with the grave monument of a priest who died in 1855. Alongside the history of the buildings and the village, there is a documented cycling tour through the area. Kłomnice lies on the Warta. This offers different focuses for planning a trip: the details of St. Martin and the cemetery, or the named cycling route.

St. Martin: several building phases

The original wooden church in Kłomnice dates back to the mid-14th century and was founded by the local Kłomnicki landowning family. The present-day Church of St. Martin was built between 1779 and 1789 in the late-Baroque style. The parish church complex includes the brick church, built in 1789 and remodeled in 1918. The complex also includes a brick bell tower dating to around the 18th century and a brick perimeter wall with a gate, also dating to around the 18th century. It is the oldest monument in the Kłomnice municipality. The span of time runs from the mid-14th century, through the late-Baroque building, to the 1918 remodeling; St. Martin thus represents several chapters in the history of the village. The church’s construction dates are specific, while the bell tower and perimeter wall are dated only approximately to the 18th century.

Historic cemetery: grave monument and gate symbols

The historic cemetery in Kłomnice dates to the 19th century and is enclosed by a brick wall. In the oldest, western section stands the sandstone grave monument of the priest Józef Gabriel Brzeziński, who died in 1855. The iron gate bears the initials “LK” and a crown symbolizing the baronial title. The stone caps on the brick cemetery pillars were probably donated by Baron Leopold Kronenberg. These details bring together different kinds of historical evidence: a grave monument attributed to a named individual, a symbolic mark and a donor attribution that is only probable.

FOLGA NA ZAKOLU cycling route

A ride on the FOLGA NA ZAKOLU cycling route documented in November 2023 was undertaken with seventh-grade students. The route ran from Zawada through Widzów, Jacków, Kłomnice and Konary, then back to Zawada, and covered just under 24 kilometres. Kłomnice is therefore one section of a longer route passing through several places; the distance refers to the entire tour. Zawada is the starting and finishing point; in the route described, Kłomnice lies between Jacków and Konary. If you use the route as a basis for planning, check the current markings before setting off.

Święto Pszczoły and trip planning

Święto Pszczoły in Kłomnice has become an annual tradition. It highlights the importance of bees in the ecosystem and strengthens community ties. The festival thus complements the historical details of the buildings and cemetery with an ecological and community focus. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the event date in advance.
