Szczyrk connects hiking trails from the town center to Skrzyczne, a family route with mountain lift rides, and the trail along the Żylica. These options have different focuses: a summit hike, a combination of mountain lifts and trail sections, or a longer route with additional ways to use it. Cultural venues and an event venue complement the mountain theme.

Mountain setting and hiking trails

Szczyrk lies in the Beskid Śląski between the slopes of Skrzyczne (1,257 m) and Klimczok (1,117 m). The town extends across elevations of 460 to 600 m. Hiking trails from the town center take you to the summit of Skrzyczne in about two and a half hours.

There is also a junction in the town center with hiking connections to Skrzyczne, Klimczok, Przełęcz Karkoszczonka, Błatnia, Przełęcz Salmopolska and Skalite. If you are planning a hike, you can use this as a starting point to choose your preferred direction.

The Pętla Szczyrkowska offers another way to combine mountain lifts and trails. The family route includes almost 6 km of rides on mountain lifts, 2 km through Szczyrk and 2 km along a scenic mountain ridge. One ticket gives you access to four mountain lifts in any direction. The sections give the loop its distinctive character: mountain lift rides, a section through town and a trail along the ridge all feature equally.

Along the Żylica

The paved path along the Żylica is used year-round by residents and tourists. It is also suitable for cyclists; weather permitting, cross-country skiing is possible there. From the town hall, the route runs via Plac św. Jakuba and the Skalite Amphitheater to Skalite. It then connects with the cycling route in Buczkowice and Rybarzowice. The round trip is about 20 km long and also includes the connected sections beyond Szczyrk.

This gives you several different scales to consider when planning: the approximate hiking time to Skrzyczne, the sections of the Pętla and the roughly 20 km round trip along the Żylica, including the onward connection. If you plan your days by time or distance, it is worth keeping these differences in mind.

Cultural venues and events

The wooden Sanctuary of St. James the Elder in Szczyrk, more than 200 years old, has an ornate interior that highlights the parish’s highlander traditions. The Bator Art Gallery was founded in 1995 on the initiative of Barbara and Mirosław Bator. Both places add cultural stops in Szczyrk to the hiking and mountain lift options.

The Mountain Museum is located in the grandstand building of the Skalite Amphitheater. The amphitheater is a venue for major cultural, entertainment and sporting events; the program varies. If you want an event to shape your stay, check the specific dates when planning.

A starting point for choosing accommodation

The gondola lift takes you to Hala Skrzyczeńska at an elevation of 1,000 m. This means you can consider the hiking destinations in the town center and this mountain lift starting point as different reference points for your stay.
