Strumień combines architectural history around the market square with arts offerings and cycling routes whose descriptions point in different directions. The town hall, church and houses on the east side of the square are at the heart of the historic town centre. For a bike ride, you can distinguish the R4, which runs along Podwale Street, from Route 251, which starts at the market square. This lets you shape your stay around local history, art or outdoor activities.

Town Hall, Market Square and Old Town

Strumień Town Hall was built around 1628 and is the oldest surviving town hall building in the Silesian Voivodeship. On the east side of the market square, a row of two-storey townhouses forms a distinctive architectural feature: the houses have mansard roofs and their gables face parallel to the street. The town hall and the row of houses on the square thus show different aspects of the historic townscape—a single public building alongside a continuous row of houses.

The Baroque Roman Catholic church is also among Strumień’s dated buildings. It was built in 1790, and the tower was added in 1792. This timeline helps distinguish the two construction phases, rather than treating the church and tower as having been built at the same time.

The former Kaflarnia, a listed monument, is also part of the area’s building and industrial history. Its production history began in the interwar period with the manufacture of tiles. Later, clothing was made there, followed by grave lanterns until the end of the 1990s. The sequence therefore extends beyond the original tile production, giving the former site a multi-phase industrial history.

Art and Visitor Information

The Galeria Pod Ratuszem is located in renovated cellars beneath the town hall. Exhibitions, exhibition openings and gatherings are held there, showcasing work by local cultural practitioners as well as artists from abroad. Organised groups can arrange a visit with the Referat Promocji i Rozwoju. If you would like to take advantage of this option, check the current arrangements in advance. This allows you to plan a gallery visit specifically, without assuming that it offers general access to all visitors.

Two audio guides can be borrowed on site at the tourist information point in Strumień: “Tam, gdzie królowa polskich rzek...” for adults and “W krainie utopca” for children. For both, you must read the terms of use before borrowing. Check availability before your visit. The different titles and audiences offer a specific choice if you would like to include an audio guide in your stay.

Cycling Routes in Different Directions

In Strumień, the international R4 cycling route runs along Podwale Street and heads towards Pszczyna or Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The red cycling route 251, by contrast, starts at the market square and runs through Chybie and Rudzica to Jaworze at the foot of the Silesian Beskids. The descriptions differ both in their routes through Strumień and in the destinations named: the R4 focuses on two directions, while Route 251 lists a succession of places along the way to its destination. If you choose either route, check the current signage before setting off.

A Break in the Park

A visit to the town can also include the park with its saltwater fountain. There is a playground, and adults can sit on a bench by the fountain. This adds a different kind of stop to the historic and cultural attractions: you can combine visits to buildings and exhibitions with a break in the park, without needing to follow a set itinerary.
