Königshütte offers a variety of reasons to stay: nature, industrial heritage and events. To help you choose, ask yourself a simple question: Would you prefer to focus on a landscape complex with different types of land, the panorama from a mine shaft tower, or the history of iron and steel metallurgy? These themes offer different ways to experience the city and help you plan your stay around your own interests.
Landscape and nature
The Żabie Doły natural and landscape complex covers around 226.24 hectares, including wasteland, agricultural land, bodies of water and spoil heaps. Of this area, 181.76 hectares lie in Chorzów and 44.48 hectares in Bytom. The complex therefore extends across both cities. Żabie Doły is also home to 251 species of vascular plants—a further facet of the area alongside its varied land types.
The Śląski Ogród Zoologiczny offers a different way to explore the theme of nature: it covers just under 50 hectares and features themed visitor trails. While Żabie Doły is defined by its size, varied land types and vascular plants, the zoo’s themed trails take center stage. This lets you choose based on your interests without viewing both nature destinations in the same way.
Mine shaft tower and industrial heritage
At Szyb Prezydent, industrial history meets a viewing point. The observation platform is 34 meters high and can be reached by climbing 201 steps. From the top, you can enjoy a panorama of the city and its surroundings. Since 2010, the mine shaft tower, together with the buildings of Sztygarka, has been part of the Industrial Monuments Route. Szyb Prezydent is therefore both a place to look out over the city and its surroundings and part of a route dedicated to industrial heritage.
Muzeum Hutnictwa focuses on iron and steel metallurgy during the Industrial Revolution. It presents this history through the Huta Kościuszko/Królewska and Batory/Bismarck steelworks. The names of the steelworks provide concrete points of reference for the historical theme: the focus is not on industry in general, but on the development of iron and steel metallurgy. Those particularly interested in this chapter of history will find a different perspective here than at the mine shaft tower and its observation platform.
Events and special offers
Football matches, concerts and running events are held at Superauto.pl Stadion Śląski, along with business conferences, trade fairs and international congresses. Its event lineup therefore spans sport, culture and business gatherings. If a particular event is the reason for your trip, check the specific dates before planning your stay around it.
At Muzeum Górnośląski Park Etnograficzny, the family outdoor game “Etnoodkrywca” is offered as an add-on to admission. The game includes a map and a diploma upon completion. As add-on offers may change, check whether the game is available at the time of your visit.
