For a trip of discovery to Siewierz, local history and outdoor activities go hand in hand: the castle’s development and churches offer historical points of reference, while the city park and cycling route provide a different perspective. The models at the Izba Tradycji i Kultury Dawnej add a detailed view of the castle and town hall. This lets you decide whether to devote more of your time to history, the park, or a bike ride.

Castle Settlement and Town Foundation

The history of Siewierz Castle probably dates back to the 12th century. At that time, the old settlement of Siewierz, which was located around the Church of St. John the Baptist, was moved closer to the site of today’s market square; the first wooden-and-earth fortification was built nearby. The Church of St. Matthias was built in the second half of the 13th century, alongside the foundation of the town. The two churches thus represent different historical points of reference: the old settlement was located around the Church of St. John the Baptist, while the town’s foundation is associated with the construction of the Church of St. Matthias.

A Manor House with Historical Models

The Izba Tradycji i Kultury Dawnej is housed in an 18th-century historic manor house on the historic route of the Duchy of Siewierz. It displays two models: Siewierz Castle as it appeared in the late 18th century and the town hall as it appeared in the 16th century. These dates refer to the periods depicted; the manor house that houses the institution also dates from the 18th century. The models therefore make it possible to compare two buildings and their appearance at different points in history.

Different Historical Periods

Several historical layers should be distinguished when comparing dates: the history of the castle probably dates back to the 12th century, and the Church of St. Matthias was built alongside the town’s foundation in the second half of the 13th century. By contrast, the Izba’s models show the buildings as they appeared in the 16th and late 18th centuries. The manor house itself also dates from the 18th century. This makes it possible to place the castle’s early development, the church’s construction, and the later periods depicted in context without treating them as the same date.

City Park and Environmental Education

The Jordan stream runs through Siewierz City Park and flows into the Przemsza. The outdoor environmental education center in the city park includes a green tunnel, a green igloo, a covered area with tables and benches, as well as educational equipment and outdoor games. These features offer different ways to experience the center: landscaped green structures, a covered area, and outdoor activities. If you plan to use the facilities, check their current availability before your visit.

By Bike from the Castle Ruins to the Reservoir

The Walenty-Roździeński cycling trail is 14.2 km long. It starts near the ruins of Siewierz Castle and runs to the Kuźnica Warężyńska Reservoir. The starting point thus connects with the castle’s history, while the reservoir marks the route’s destination. This gives you a specific distance, starting point, and endpoint to use when planning. Check current route conditions locally before setting off.
