Gościcino’s architectural and industrial history offers a way to get to know the town: a villa with eleven rooms was built in 1905 from red brick, with a tiled roof. The local historical picture also includes a listed factory complex, a workers’ settlement built in 1909 and an old stand of trees designated as a natural monument. Dworek Drzewiarza is now used as a library and cultural centre; a room available to rent there offers another practical connection to the town’s cultural life.

Dworek Drzewiarza: Villa and Cultural Venue

Dworek Drzewiarza was built in 1905 as the villa of a brickworks owner. Red brick, a tiled roof and eleven rooms give the building a distinct historical character. Today, the manor house is used as a library and cultural centre for the Gmina Wejherowo. BCK Gminy Wejherowo offers a comfortable room for rent there. Possible uses include meetings, training sessions, workshops, lectures, conferences, educational activities, cultural events and private celebrations.

The site thus combines historic architecture with a present-day cultural use. If you are considering renting the room for your own event, check its availability before travelling.

Factory History and Workers’ Settlement

At ul. Fabryczna 1, the furniture and chair factory complex is listed as a historic monument; today it is known as the Klose furniture factory. The complex includes a water tower dating from the 19th or 20th century. The villa and factory represent different aspects of local history: on the one hand, the home of a brickworks owner; on the other, a furniture and chair production complex with its associated water tower.

Another date takes us back to 1909, when a workers’ settlement was built in Gościcino. Together with the villa from 1905, this provides a brief chronology of different strands of local architectural and industrial history.

A Natural Monument on ul. Drzewiarza

The list of historic monuments gives ul. Drzewiarza 2 as the address of the brickworks owner’s villa. The old stand of trees at the same address is designated as a natural monument. Two different perspectives meet at this named location: the villa’s architectural heritage and the protection of old trees. Alongside its factory and architectural history, Gościcino also has a clearly identified connection to nature.

Cycling: Check the Current Signage

The Gościcino integration hub project included the designation of cycle paths. If you plan to cycle, check the current signage on site.

Culture in the Wider Destination of Neustadt

In the wider destination of Neustadt, Wejherowo offers its own cultural highlights. Kalwaria Wejherowska was the fourth Calvary complex to be built during the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. After Bishop Mikołaj Albert Gniewosz of Aleksandrów approved its construction on 9 June 1649, work began on its chapels. Another perspective on the region is offered by the Muzeum Piśmiennictwa i Muzyki Kaszubsko-Pomorskiej: founded in 1968, it is a treasure trove of regional artefacts and a centre of Kashubian culture, particularly the Kashubian language.

Other cultural themes in Wejherowo range from the history of the Kashubians to remembrance of the Pomeranian crimes. The Książnica prof. Gerarda Labudy presents a permanent exhibition on Kashubian history. In its two-storey permanent exhibition, the Muzeum Piaśnickie commemorates the victims through the example of the Piaśnica crime; relics of this crime are located in the basement. Models of the town and Kalwaria Wejherowska are on display in the historic town hall.

The Szlak Nut Kaszubskich offers a different emphasis: fifteen plinths bearing fragments of a traditional counting rhyme are spread across different parts of the town, forming a route that passes the main attractions. Individual installations may change. Wejherowo’s cultural highlights thus complement Gościcino’s architectural, factory and nature themes with regional history, language and remembrance.
