Church history and marked hiking trails give a trip to Lubiszewo Tczewskie two clearly distinct focal points. The Church of the Holy Trinity, devotion to Our Lady of Consolation and the medieval castle complex offer insights into the town’s history. Those who want to make their stay more activity-focused can follow two marked routes. The two themes can be given separate emphasis when planning: the church brings together architectural history and sacred art, while the trails’ markings and routes provide a distinct way to plan hikes.

Church, Sanctuary and Sacred Art

The Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1348 and has been the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Consolation since 1997. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Consolation venerates a figure of Our Lady of Consolation dating from 1380. The church’s high altar is adorned with a Gothic sculpture of the Holy Trinity dating from 1420.

The dates span the church’s construction in 1348, the Marian figure from 1380 and the sculpture from 1420. They refer to different objects and aspects, so the building’s history, Marian devotion and the artwork cannot be reduced to a single date. For a culture-focused trip, this gives a clear sequence through which to explore the town’s religious history. Lubiszewo has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries; the sanctuary is also part of the Pomeranian Marian Shrines Trail. Those interested in religious culture can understand the place both through its individual works of art and its pilgrimage tradition.

Castle Complex and the Town’s Medieval History

The castle complex in Lubiszewo was established before 1198. From 1229 to 1253, it was the seat of Sambor II, the independent Duke of Lubiszewo-Tczew. The early foundation and the later ducal role refer to different historical periods: the first date concerns the castle complex’s origins, and the second its role in the 13th century. In this way, the town’s history also has a clearly defined connection to medieval rule, alongside the church’s construction and furnishings.

Marked Hiking Trails and Their Routes

The yellow-marked Kociewski Trail is an approximately 80 km hiking route that passes through Lubiszewo. From the village of Lubiszewo, the trail runs along Lake Rokickie. The green-marked Roman Klim Trail runs from Tczew through Szpęgawa and Stanisławie to Lubiszewo. From the village, it continues together with the yellow markings to the area of the Rokickie Lakes. From there, it continues towards Śliwiny and reaches Waćmierek.

The routes can be distinguished by their different navigational features: the Kociewski Trail is defined by its approximate total length and route along Lake Rokickie; for the Roman Klim Trail, the sequence of towns and its shared continuation with the yellow markings to the lakes area provide orientation. This presents two specific planning considerations: the length of the Kociewski Trail and the route of the Roman Klim Trail through the listed towns. When planning your hike, you can consider which of these aspects is more important for your stay.
