Discover Malbork through a range of themes: castle and city history, crafts, places to learn, and waterside experiences on the Nogat. When planning, it helps to distinguish between these highlights: some offerings explore the city’s history, others invite you to take part or add a seasonal touch.
Castle History and Special Details
Malbork Castle was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. A reconstructed statue of the Madonna and Child offers a different perspective: it is over 8 metres tall, covered with more than 300,000 mosaic tesserae, and consists of over 60 percent original sections recovered from the ruins of the post-war period.
The Muzeum Miasta Malborka is located in a historic villa at ul. Tadeusza Kościuszki 54. The museum offers educational sessions for school and preschool groups; if interested, check the details with the museum in advance. Another precise reference to the castle is its miniature model: a faithful copy of the castle as it stood in 1938, at a scale of 1:30, located at ul. Józefa Piłsudskiego.
City Walls, Images and Views of the Nogat
The Zewnętrzne Muzeum Fortyfikacji route runs along restored eastern and western city walls. It includes a presentation of the Old Town as a virtual tour, with archive photographs, postcards and artistic depictions from different eras. These varied visual sources are presented alongside the place itself: the route also includes a viewpoint overlooking the western defensive walls and the Nogat, as well as a walk along the riverside promenade by the western walls.
Crafts and Places to Learn
At Ceramika Malborska, participants can make their own ceramic tile from scratch and paint it with cobalt oxide. Workshops are held in small groups or for school and tour groups; individual travellers are also welcome. Advance booking is required.
Szkoła Łacińska offers workshops at an open-air museum of traditional crafts and also includes an observatory and a planetarium. Dinopark features an educational trail with moving dinosaurs and dragons, a Neanderthal village with mammoths, and a talking tree. Dinopark also has a fossil museum with plant and animal fossils and a dinosaur skeleton. These offer different ways to learn: hands-on crafts, a look at the sky, or topics from prehistoric times.
The Nogat and Seasonal Offers
The kayaking route on the Nogat passes through the Biała Góra Nature Reserve, the Nogat River Landscape Protection Area, and the Las Łęgowy nad Nogatem and Las Mątawski nature reserves. For a different perspective on the river, Rejsy Malbork offers a sightseeing boat trip of about 30 minutes from the landing stage by the castle. The service is seasonal; the boats stay in Malbork throughout the season. Check current dates and prices in advance.
Sklepy Cynamonowe is also open seasonally: this market for regional specialities combines an interwar atmosphere with local drinks, accompanied by pre-war hits. If a visit to the market or a boat trip is important to your trip, keep their seasonal nature in mind when planning.
