Nowa Karczma offers a mix of local culture and activities across the municipality: options include a combined hiking and cycling route, a section of a cycling trail, and a Nordic walking route. There is also a lake landscape extending across the municipality.
Lakes and Nature Conservation
The municipality of Nowa Karczma has numerous lakes with a combined area of nearly 300 ha. It is also home to six areas belonging to the European Natura 2000 ecological network. The lakes and Natura 2000 areas shape the municipality’s natural landscape; when choosing a route, you can consider the activity and distance that suit you.
Choose Routes by Activity and Distance
The combined Nowa Karczma–Nowy Barkoczyn hiking and cycling route is 5 km long. It connects the municipality’s administrative and service centre with Nowy Barkoczyn on Lake Barkocińskie. Both the route type and its two endpoints are specified; among the route options described here, this is the shortest.
Cyclists can also take the section of the “Szlak rowerowy im. Józefa Wybickiego” from Lake Łąkie to Będomin. It is 12 km long and runs through the municipality of Nowa Karczma. Another option is the green Stolemowe Nordic walking route in the municipality, which is 13.7 km long.
The distances can be compared by activity: 5 km for the combined hiking and cycling route, 12 km for the cycling trail section, and 13.7 km for Nordic walking. Choose the mode of travel that suits your day’s plans; the distances also indicate the length of each route.
Church, Memorial Chapel and Museum
The “Kościół p.w. św. Antoniego” church in Nowa Karczma became a parish church in July 1984. It is on the right-hand side of the road from Kościerzyna to Nowa Karczma, making it a useful landmark when travelling along this road. In the centre of Nowa Karczma, a memorial chapel commemorates residents of the municipality who were murdered in 1939. The two sites reflect different aspects of the history of the town and the municipality.
In nearby Będomin, the National Anthem Museum presents the permanent exhibition “The History of Mazurek Dąbrowski.” The exhibition “Józef Wybicki and His Times” is also on display there until 31 December 2026. The two exhibition titles have different focuses: the history of Mazurek Dąbrowski, and Józef Wybicki and his times. If you include the museum in your plans, take note of the stated end date for the second exhibition and check visitor information in advance.
Timetable and Accommodation Search
The seasonal timetable is also useful for getting around the municipality. On weekdays during the summer holidays, the municipal timetable lists a circular route from Nowa Karczma via Śledziowa Huta, Grabowska Huta, and Sztofrowa Huta, returning to Nowa Karczma. If you plan to use this service, check the timetable for your travel dates before setting out.
When searching for a hotel in Nowa Karczma, you can plan your days around the different themes: cultural sites in town, a route suited to a particular activity, or the municipality’s lakes and protected areas. This makes it easier to compare your travel plans without combining the different routes into a single tour. A visit to Będomin adds to the cultural itinerary; bear in mind the end date of the “Józef Wybicki and His Times” exhibition.
