Stare Czaple offers a cycling route that runs through the village, as well as a partially preserved oval village layout by Lake Buk. When choosing accommodation, you can focus on cycling and hiking or on local history and cultural heritage. The routes and features of the village offer different points of orientation: the routes represent activity, while the village layout and monuments reflect the historical side of a stay.

Cycling Route and Hiking Trail

The 12.4 km Bronica Dolna–Haska–Czapielski Młyn–Stare Czaple–Gołubie cycling route passes through Stare Czaple and lies entirely within the Kashubian Landscape Park. On the section from Lake Zamkowisko to Gołubie, it follows the same route as a marked hiking trail. This shared route applies to the section named above; it does not describe the entire course of both trails.

The Kashubian Hiking Trail also passes through Stare Czaple on the Krzeszna–Gołubie section. After a rerouting in 2004, the trail’s total length was given as 133 km. This figure refers to the entire trail, not the section through the village. Check the current trail markings and total length before setting out on a hike. The distances therefore refer to different scales: 12.4 km for the named cycling route and 133 km for the entire hiking trail.

Village Layout and Landscape by Lake Buk

Stare Czaple has partially preserved its former oval village layout by Lake Buk. The landscape qualities and spatial layout of the village and its immediate surroundings have also been preserved and remain discernible. The shore of Lake Buk by Stare Czaple is lined with trees. The village’s buildings also extend along the road leading to Gołubie.

These features offer different points of reference for the village’s character: the oval village layout by the lake, the tree-lined shore and the settlement’s extension along a road. The village layout describes the former settlement form, while the shore adds a landscape feature. The road to Gołubie provides an additional point of orientation along the village. The settlement layout, lakeshore and road can thus be seen as different aspects of the local spatial structure.

Archaeological Traces and Historical Heritage

The archaeological heritage includes a Bronze Age burial mound cemetery, one of the archaeological sites in the Kashubian Landscape Park. The Stare Czaple burial mound is recorded in the monument register and heritage lists. These references shed light on the village in different ways: as an archaeological site and through the monument status of a burial mound.

A brick wayside shrine from the early 20th century has also been preserved in Stare Czaple. A wayside shrine is a small religious monument; the surviving structure represents a much later period than the Bronze Age burial mound cemetery. Together with the partially preserved village layout, these features bring archaeological traces, a small architectural monument and the settlement’s form side by side. They offer different points of reference for travellers who wish to consider local history and cultural heritage, as well as the routes, when choosing a destination.
