An 18th-century manor house, a forester’s lodge built in 1870 and a chapel founded in 1730 give Mirachowo a thread of history. Nearby, forests and lakes add another dimension. The village’s architectural history and the surrounding area’s nature destinations can therefore be explored as distinct focuses for your days away.
Historic Buildings in Mirachowo
The Starościński Manor House dates from the 18th century and served as the seat of the Kartuzy district administrator before the Second World War. The present-day building of the Mirachowo Forester’s Lodge was built in 1870 at the initiative of the Prussian administration. The Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, meanwhile, was founded in 1730 by Countess Szczaniawska.
These three dates mark distinct historical connections: the manor house’s former administrative function, the forester’s lodge’s construction under Prussian administration, and the chapel’s foundation. If you are interested in architectural and local history, these buildings offer tangible points of reference, while their dates of origin remain distinct.
Forests and Lakes Nearby
A 5.8 km forest walk follows a circular route around Lake Lubygość. The “Lubygość” tourist station marks the endpoint of the walk described. Check local conditions before setting out. The circular route has a specific distance, while the Lubygość Nature Reserve describes the wider landscape: it covers just under 70 hectares, including the lake and surrounding forests on the steep slopes of a ribbon lake valley.
Also not far from Mirachowo is the Devil’s Stone on the shore of Lake Kamienne, in the municipality of Kartuzy. Its circumference is about 17 metres. The reconstructed “Ptasia Wola” partisan bunker complex of TOW Gryf Pomorski is also on the Mirachowska Loop. Local partisans hid there during the Second World War. The surrounding area therefore combines nature with a specific connection to wartime history.
Karthaus: More Places to Visit in Kartuzy
The wider Karthaus destination includes other distinct places to explore in Kartuzy. The Gothic collegiate church dates from the 14th century. It is one of Pomerania’s most valuable architectural monuments, unique on a national scale and a testament to the work of the Carthusian Order. Its distinctive Baroque coffin-lid-shaped roof symbolizes the Carthusian monks’ monastic way of life with the words “memento mori” (“remember that you must die”).
The Franciszek Treder Kashubian Museum presents Kashubian cultural heritage, including literature, material culture, language, and regional history and traditions. In the main building, exhibits are arranged across eight exhibition halls. The listed exhibits include Bazyli’s forge, “Kaszubska współczesność z korzeni wyrasta” and temporary exhibitions. The church and museum thus offer different perspectives on history and culture in Kartuzy.
For time outdoors, the Asesor Promenade offers a walking and cycling path along the shore of Lake Karczemne. It is connected to Asesor’s Bench, which serves as a viewpoint over Kartuzy; the promenade is also a popular destination for excursions by locals and tourists. Another promenade on Lake Klasztorne Małe was built in 2020.
