Brodnica Górna lies in the Kashubian Landscape Park and the Kashubian Lake District. There are different things to focus on when planning your visit: views from Złota Góra, seasonal water sports, and the history of the settlement and its parish. The village is also on provincial road DW228.

Views and water sports at Złota Góra

From the Złota Góra viewpoint in Brodnica Górna, you can look out over Lake Brodno Wielkie; Lake Ostrzyckie is also visible from there. The viewpoint is easily accessible from a paved road.

The Centre for Water Sports and Regional Promotion is also located on Złota Góra. It is on the “Radunia Circle” route, which includes the area around Lake Brodno Wielkie. The viewpoint and the water sports centre are therefore two separate places to visit when planning activities around Złota Góra.

Water sports and regional products

The centre has facilities for water sports and rents out water sports equipment. The rental service operates from May to October; seasonal opening times may vary. If you are planning to take part in water sports, check in advance whether equipment rental will be available on your travel dates.

Visitors can sample specialties from “Gospodynie Brodnickie” at the centre. These are regional products made by local residents. A visit can therefore combine water sports with a taste of local produce.

Settlement and church history

Brodnica Górna was an old knightly settlement that later became a noble settlement. For several centuries, the village belonged to the Kashubian families of Lniskis and Ustarbowskis. This succession provides a clear historical context for the village before the construction history of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus begins.

The parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Brodnica Górna was separated from the parish of Chmielno in 1905. Construction of the church began on 30 June 1932, based on a design by engineer P. Cybichowski. It was consecrated on 7 November 1933. These dates distinguish the development of the parish from the church’s later construction and consecration.

The Kashubian festival Truskawkobranie

The annual Kashubian festival Truskawkobranie takes place in late June or early July at the foot of the nearby Złota Góra hill. Exact dates vary from year to year. If you are planning to travel specifically for the festival, check the dates for that year against your plans.

A cultural perspective in the wider destination of Karthaus

In the wider destination of Karthaus, Kartuzy offers an additional perspective on regional history. The Gothic collegiate church there dates from the 14th century. It is one of Pomerania’s most valuable architectural monuments and is unique on a national scale. A distinctive feature is its Baroque roof, shaped like a coffin lid, which symbolises the monastic ideal of the Carthusian Order and its motto “memento mori”.

The Franciszek Treder Kashubian Museum in Kartuzy presents Kashubian cultural heritage through literature, material culture, language, and regional history and traditions. Its exhibits are displayed in eight exhibition rooms in the main building. They include Bazyli’s smithy, the exhibition “Kaszubska współczesność z korzeni wyrasta” and temporary exhibitions. Kartuzy and Brodnica Górna thus complement each other as different points of connection with Kashubian culture and history.
