A clearly marked hiking trail endpoint, a seawater bathing area designated for 2026, and a seasonal ferry connection give Świbno several specific ways to explore Wyspa Sobieszewska during a stay. Depending on your travel plans, the focus may be on the beach, hiking, cycling or local history; the area’s distinctive features help you tell these options apart.

Seawater Bathing Area and Island Landscape

For the 2026 summer season, Świbno was planned as one of nine supervised seawater bathing areas in Gdańsk. The designated Gdańsk Świbno bathing area covers a 100 m stretch of shoreline at beach access point No. 7: 50 m on either side of the access point. It extends 50 m offshore in the direction of the Gulf of Gdańsk. These measurements refer to the bathing area designation for the 2026 season.

The landscape also helps place Świbno within the island. The village belongs to a loosely built-up corridor, with residential and residential-service development along the main traffic route of Wyspa Sobieszewska. This corridor separates the beach, dunes and forest belt from the agricultural area that occupies most of the island’s southern part. This means different landscape areas can be considered when planning a trip: the coastal belt and the island’s agriculture-dominated south.

Hiking and Cycling

The 14 km green-marked PTTK hiking trail on Wyspa Sobieszewska runs entirely through the island’s scenic area and ends in Świbno at the ferry crossing. It is also a section of the international long-distance E-9 Coastal Path, which runs, among other places, along the Polish coast. The 14 km refers to the length of the island route; its E-9 designation also places it within a longer coastal trail. A hiking trail for pedestrians is also designated in the “Mewia Łacha” nature reserve. Hikers can therefore choose both a marked island route with a named endpoint and a designated walking path within a nature reserve.

The Wincenty Pola cycling route reaches Świbno after 11.5 km from its starting point. The Świbno–Mikoszewo ferry across the Przekop Wisły offers a seasonal way to continue the journey: cyclists can use it to carry on along the Mierzeja Wiślana beyond Wyspa Sobieszewska. The connection is listed as operating from May to October. If you plan to cross, check the ferry service before your trip.

Church and Memorial Sites

Świbno is home to the Milenijne sanktuarium św. Wojciecha Chrzciciela Gdańska, the Millennium Sanctuary of Saint Adalbert, the baptizer of Gdańsk. The sanctuary was established in the parish in Świbno on 20 April 1997; the church was given the title “Pomnik Tysiąclecia” (“Millennium Monument”). The date and title give the site a specific connection to church history.

Another memorial is the Pomnik 100-lecia Przekopu Wisły, an obelisk commemorating the centenary of the Przekop Wisły. It stands on ul. Boguckiego, on the embankment at the approach to the ferry crossing. While the sanctuary marks Świbno’s religious significance, the obelisk commemorates the Przekop Wisły. Together, these sites add a cultural dimension alongside the trails and coastal landscape.
