Pręgowo Górne combines named hiking trails with a historical setting shaped by water supply, landscape and sacred art. If you are considering the place as a travel destination, you can discover these different themes on the map and in its history.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

Two hiking trails lead to the water intake in Pręgowo Górne. The blue Szlak Kaszubsko-Żuławski comes from Pruszcz and passes through the Dolina Ostróżki. The green Szlak Skarszewski leads from Sopot through the Pręgowska Valley. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by their starting point, colour and landscape name; the water intake is their shared destination.

The Pręgowska Valley is U-shaped. Its flat valley floor and a meandering stream give it a clearly defined landscape form. The Skarszewski Trail leaves Pręgowo and then passes through a valley by wells belonging to the drinking water supply for Gdańsk. The trails thus connect the valleys and the water supply as two aspects of the surroundings. If you are planning a hike for a particular day, check the current route before setting out.

Góra Zamkowa is also at the end of the Pręgowska Valley. Traces of a hillfort dating from the 9th to the 11th century can be found on the hill. These archaeological remains give the landscape a historical connection that reaches further back than the more recent history of the water facilities.

The History of the Water Intake

Construction of the historic Pręgowo water pipeline began in 1869. The Pręgowo water intake was considered the first facility of its kind in Europe and was visited by numerous experts. The shared destination therefore also has a history of water supply and professional significance. Landscape, trails and technology offer different perspectives on the surroundings of Pręgowo Górne.

Church and Regional Culture in Pręgowo

The Corpus Christi Church in Pręgowo is located near Pręgowo Górne. It was probably built by the Teutonic Knights in the first half of the 14th century. The interior contains preserved colourful frescoes from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Their subjects include scenes from Holy Week and the Last Judgment. The paintings thus provide a different historical reference point from the church tower, which was built around 1739.

The tower is built using half-timbering and has a pointed roof covered with zinc. The church's historic furnishings also include a Baroque high altar and choir stalls depicting Noah's Ark. A restored pulpit adds to these furnishings. Other features include a plaque commemorating the heroes of Pręgowo in the First World War, an image of Saint Roch, the parish's patron saint, and two Gothic holy-water stoups. Together, these details show different forms of church art, remembrance and furnishings.

There is also a modern stone Calvary and a historic rectory near the church. The Kaszubians call a community room designed in a regional style “Najo Checz”. Thus, the nearby area includes cultural places beyond the church, each with its own character.
