The Brda provides a clear point of reference for planning a trip to Męcikał: the village is suited to kayaking on the river, while the blue Brda Trail offers a route with several named stops. There is also a lake east of the village and places of remembrance connected with partisan history. This lets you choose different focuses—from the water to the village’s history.

The Brda and the route

The blue Brda Trail runs from Męcikał towards the railway bridge, continues along Lake Dybrzk, and reaches the boundary of Bory Tucholskie National Park. This sequence makes the route clear: the railway bridge, the lake, and the national park boundary are the named landmarks. Męcikał is also suited to kayaking on the Brda. The trail and the river activity thus offer two different ways to experience the Brda, which you can consider according to your interests.

Another point of reference is the pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Brda, built in 2010 and a tourist attraction in Męcikał. It complements the railway bridge as a separate bridge structure in the village; its construction date also gives it a specific historical connection. The trail route and the pedestrian and cycle bridge attraction are separate details.

Lake and forest

East of Męcikał lies Lake Trzemeszno, considered a quiet place for swimming. It offers a different kind of waterside stay from kayaking on the Brda. If you are weighing these options for your trip, you can consider the lake’s appeal for swimming separately from activities on the river.

Horse-drawn carriage rides through the Kashubian forests are also offered in Męcikał. Together with kayaking on the Brda, these provide different types of activities: one on the river and one through the forests. Which of them you include in your trip depends on what you would like to focus on.

Local history and places of remembrance

The Church of Blessed Father Jozef Jankowski was built between 2006 and 2011. Its construction period is a specific point of reference for the more recent building history of Męcikał. A monument by a road in Męcikał also commemorates the battle for the “Zielony Pałac” partisan bunker on 21–22 March 1944.

The village’s history is also associated with patriotic and partisan traditions. These include the activities of the “Gryf Pomorski” partisans in Męcikał and the surrounding forests during the Second World War. The location of the places of remembrance is also important for understanding them: the monument stands by a road in Męcikał, while the reconstructed “Zielony Pałac” partisan bunker is in a forest nearby. Thus, the memorial in the village and the bunker in the nearby forest are two distinct points of reference in different locations.
