Siemiatycze offers a mix of Neoclassical heritage, Orthodox art, and recreation by the water. When planning your days, you can therefore first decide whether to prioritize culture, walks, or seasonal activities by the water.

Neoclassical heritage and religious buildings

The former synagogue in Siemiatycze was built in 1797 in the Neoclassical style, based on a design by Szymon Bogumił Zug. Today, the building houses the Siemiatycki Ośrodek Kultury and the SOK Gallery. The building’s history and its present-day cultural use come together in one place. Check the current visitor arrangements before your visit.

Another distinctive religious building is the Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Its interior frescoes are inspired by Byzantine painting. The Church of the Assumption of Mary is listed as a historic monument. Together, the three sites offer different points of interest for a culture-focused stay: Neoclassical architectural history, fresco art, and protected historic architecture.

Reservoirs and seasonal activities

The three reservoirs in Siemiatycze cover a total area of about 33 hectares. Reservoir No. 1 has a playground, a recreation area, and a path with a bridge connecting the banks of the body of water. This provides both a recreation area and a specific waterside route.

In summer, Siemiatycze has a supervised swimming area, a beach with a volleyball court, and a small outdoor fitness area. These facilities are seasonal; check local information about the current operating season before your trip. Water sports equipment can also be rented at the reservoir, and a water playground is available. For both, it is advisable to check current seasonal availability.

Walks and trails

Running, cross-country skiing, and Nordic walking routes have been laid out by the reservoir. Cross-country skiing is a seasonal winter activity; the other activities have different focuses. If you plan around the time of year, you can distinguish these routes from the explicitly summer swimming and beach facilities.

The Szlak Powstania Styczniowego is a walking trail. Its name commemorates the major battle of the January Uprising on February 6–7, 1863. The trail begins and ends at the former synagogue on Zaszkolna Street. This gives the route a specific historical connection and a start and finish point at one of Siemiatycze’s cultural sites.

The wider Siemiatycze destination

The wider Siemiatycze destination also offers regional nature and excursion themes. The large forest areas in Siemiatycki County invite visitors to pick mushrooms and go hiking and cycling. The county’s larger bodies of water are suitable for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. These regional options complement the activities at the town’s reservoirs with additional outdoor pursuits.

One regional hiking trail is the yellow-marked Szlak Kupiecki. It is 40 kilometers long, starts in Siemiatycze, and passes through the municipality of Mielnik. Every year on August 19, believers make a pilgrimage to Święta Góra Grabarka for the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Spasa. These fixed points of reference help you weigh hiking interests against a stay centered around the religious feast day when planning your trip.
