Rudawka is a border village set in the forest along the Augustów Canal. Two routes starting here offer useful points of reference when planning a stay: they differ in length and stated walking time, while the cycling time is the same. The village also has historical landmarks, from the wooden Chapel of St. Anne to the First World War cemetery. This lets you consider outdoor activity and local history together when choosing your destination.

Hiking trails in Rudawka

The “CUDA NATURY” route is 6.5 kilometres long; the stated times are two and a half hours on foot and one hour by bicycle. It is a circular route from Rudawka via Kudrynki and Lipiny, then back through Kudrynki to Rudawka. CUDA NATURY is described as a short, nature-focused walk that is not very strenuous and is easy to navigate. This description refers to the walk; the walking and cycling times are stated separately.

“Spacer nad Kanałem” is 4 kilometres long. The stated walking time is two hours and the cycling time is one hour; this route also starts in Rudawka. Comparing the times helps with planning: the stated walking times differ by half an hour, while both routes are assigned the same one-hour cycling time. In terms of distance, “Spacer nad Kanałem” is the shorter of the two routes. Check local conditions before setting out on CUDA NATURY.

Historical places and points in time

The first historical references to Rudawka date from 1559. The village remained the property of the Camaldolese monks until 1800. These details point to different aspects of the past: 1559 is associated with the first references, while 1800 marks the end of the stated period of ownership. The historic wooden Chapel of St. Anne was built in the early 19th century. Its construction therefore postdates the ownership period that lasted until 1800, adding another point in time to the earlier dates.

Another chapter in the village’s history is linked to the First World War. Fighting took place in Rudawka during the war, and the soldiers’ cemetery there commemorates it. It is one of two First World War cemeteries counted among the memorial sites of the Płaska municipality. The chapel and cemetery thus represent different historical themes: the chapel is defined by its period of construction and dedication to St. Anne, while the cemetery is linked to the fighting in Rudawka.

Choosing Rudawka as a destination

Both routes start in the village, and the chapel and cemetery are also located in Rudawka. When planning, you can first decide whether walking time, route length, or local history will play a greater role in your stay. There is no set itinerary: the routes and historical themes can be considered separately.
