Paczków combines a distinctive medieval townscape with technical museums, events and opportunities by the water. The surviving medieval defensive walls enclose Paczków in a regular oval measuring 1.2 kilometres in length. Historic townhouses line the market square, whose street layout is also medieval. This makes it possible to discover the town’s layout and the historic streetscape around the square as two facets of its history.

Townscape and Getting Your Bearings

The town hall tower is open to visitors and equipped with panoramic telescopes. QR-code signs at Paczków’s sights provide information about the town. The tower and the signs offer different ways to explore: panoramic views from the town hall and information about the town at its sights.

The Muzeum Gazownictwa is housed in a historic municipal gasworks dating from 1902. Its interactive exhibitions present the history of domestic and industrial gas. The museum adds the technical history of gas use in everyday life and industry to the story told by the walls and townhouses.

Technology, Motoring and Art

The Metamuzeum Motoryzacji offers a different thematic focus: it has 11 interactive stations in a purpose-restored, 200-year-old building with an area of 1,200 m². It also features a collection of several dozen historic cars and motorcycles. The complex is also home to the “Na Hoplach” contemporary art gallery. Motoring and contemporary art sit side by side as distinct themes within the same complex.

Culture and Wine

The Fundacja Rodziny Biernackich „Pojęcie o wyobrażeniu“ hosts concerts and theatre performances in the gallery hall above the wine bar. If you are planning a specific visit, check the event dates in advance. At Winnica Poraj Paczków, you can sample and buy wines on site.

A wine bar is located on the grounds of an old manor estate, in a 17th-century barn. It is surrounded by a vineyard of almost five hectares. The barn’s historic setting and the wine tasting offer different points of interest for anyone curious about wine as well as Paczków’s townscape.

Cycling, the Waterfront and Seasonal Nature

The 36-kilometre “Śladami historii Paczkowa i Javornika” cycling route passes through Paczków. Its name puts the history of Paczków and Javornik at the heart of the route. At Zalew Paczkowski reservoir, the waterfront is ideal for long walks and bike rides. The history-themed cycling route and activities by the water offer two different ways to explore.

In the area around Paczków, “Ptasia Wyspa” at Zalew Paczkowski is seasonally inhabited by rare waterbird species. These include grey herons, black-headed gulls, little bitterns, swans, grebes, ducks, terns and shovellers. The birdlife is seasonal; this natural attraction adds a different focus to the town’s history and waterfront activities.

When looking for a hotel in Paczków, you can start by deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: local history and museums, wine and events, or long walks and bike rides along the waterfront. If you plan to visit the town hall tower or the museums, it is advisable to check their opening times in advance.
