Seven routes through the town and its surroundings, protected natural areas in the municipality, and a ferry with a clearly defined season give Łomianki a range of attractions. When looking for a hotel, it’s worth considering your travel dates and interests together: would you like to focus mainly on local history, trails, water, or wildlife and plant life?
Nature in Łomianki Municipality
Jezioro Kiełpińskie Nature Reserve is located in Łomianki Municipality. This 19.7624-hectare aquatic reserve is a well-preserved oxbow lake of the Vistula and protects characteristic fauna and flora. Access to the reserve is restricted. Almost the entire area lies within the “Kampinoska Dolina Wisły” Natura 2000 site (PLH140029). Four white willows (Salix alba) designated as natural monuments also stand on the road to the nature reserve.
Within Łomianki Municipality, the Ławice Kiełpińskie bird sanctuary covers 328.1683 hectares; additional sections lie in Jabłonna and Białołęka. It protects nesting sites for waterbirds and marsh birds, including colonies of little terns and nesting sites of black-headed gulls, common gulls, common terns, little ringed plovers, ringed plovers, common sandpipers, goosanders and kingfishers. Visitors must also observe access restrictions in this area.
The two protected areas have different focuses: Jezioro Kiełpińskie centers on the oxbow lake and its characteristic fauna and flora, while Ławice Kiełpińskie focuses on nesting sites. If you’re including nature in your trip, keep the access restrictions in both areas in mind.
Trails and activities
The “Spacerownik po Łomiankach” (Łomianki walking guide) features seven routes through the town and its surroundings. An interactive map of the municipality shows walking and cycling routes as well as notable points; it provides information and photos for selected routes and points. The walking guide organizes the selection into seven routes, while the map displays routes and notable points. Route and point information may be updated, so check the map before making specific plans.
A recreation area in the municipality is located at Jeziorko Pawłowskie, at the intersection of Jeziorna and Strumykowa streets. It features paths with an ecological mineral-resin surface, a pier and platforms. Facilities also include benches, loungers, a hammock and chess tables.
Seasonal Park Linowy Łomianki offers several rope courses of varying difficulty: easier ones for younger participants and more challenging sections for older children and adults. The park is closed outside its operating season, so take this into account when planning. At the municipal level, the Integracyjne Centrum Dydaktyczno-Sportowe in Łomianki includes a swimming pool with a sports area and a leisure area.
Ferry and travel dates
The “Turkawka” ferry connects Łomianki and Nowodwory in spring and summer. Each crossing carries 12 passengers and the same number of bicycles. If you plan to use the ferry, take its seasonal operating schedule into account and check availability before travelling. The time of year is therefore a practical factor when deciding whether the ferry will suit your stay.
Traces of local history
A monument to General Mikołaj Bołtuć stands in the center of Łomianki. The town’s ecclesiastical history also goes back a long way: the first church was built here and a new parish founded in the 15th century. The parish is dedicated to Saint Margaret. A specific memorial in the town center and the parish’s early history thus offer two distinct historical points of interest.
