Lakes and their different attractions

Jezioro Szczutowskie is a glacial lake of about 100 hectares with a varied shoreline. Forests and recreational areas are part of the landscape; the lake is considered scenic and relatively unspoilt. The Jezioro Szczutowskie Nature and Landscape Complex covers 250.9 hectares. The two area figures distinguish the size of the lake from that of the landscape complex. Fishing, swimming and water sports are enjoyed at the lake.

Jezioro Urszulewskie is the largest body of water in the Gmina Szczutowo and lies on the border between the Masovian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships. In summer, it serves as a bathing spot and a centre for water recreation; in winter, it attracts ice anglers. Several larger and smaller bathing spots are located along its scenic shoreline. A large beach is by the recreation centre in Szczutowo. Swimming facilities and beach operations may be seasonal. Jezioro Szczutowskie is considered relatively unspoilt; at Jezioro Urszulewskie, by contrast, the focus shifts over the course of the year from summer swimming to winter fishing.

Hiking and cycling

Hiking and cycling are among the nature-based activities in the Gmina Szczutowo. The forests and meadows around Jezioro Urszulewskie support hiking and cycling tourism; the lake area also includes cycling routes and recreational corridors. Two named hiking trails run through the Gmina: the green Szlak im. Bartosza Paprockiego and the black Szlak im. Rodu Sieprskich. Both run between Sierpc and Szczutowo and differ in colour and name. The locations mentioned also help distinguish the hiking and cycling options: the hiking trails connect Sierpc and Szczutowo, while cycling routes and recreational corridors are located in the lake area. You can choose what to focus on depending on whether you prefer routes connecting towns or activities around the lake.

Churches and memorial sites

The architectural history also offers two clearly distinct sites. In Karlewo stands the wooden branch church of St. Lawrence, dating from 1720 and listed as a historic monument. In Gójsk is the listed parish Church of the Sacred Heart, built between 1903 and 1906. Almost two centuries separate their construction dates; the churches also differ in their function as a branch church and a parish church. The Gmina's cultural heritage also includes numerous roadside shrines and crosses. Memorial sites commemorate residents who fought to defend their homeland.
