A museum bridging research and music
The Oskar Kolberg Museum in Przysucha is housed in a historic manor house built by the Dembiński family in the second half of the 19th century. The museum offers insights into Kolberg’s life, his scholarly work in ethnography and folklore studies, his musical work, and his connections to Przysucha. Its focus thus brings together several facets of a single personality: research, music and ties to the place.
The museum’s educational programme also offers a range of approaches. It works with original exhibits and includes age-appropriate ethnographic workshops with folk artists for school students. If you plan to attend a workshop, check the current booking arrangements.
Synagogue, cemetery and Marian sanctuary
The synagogue in Przysucha is considered a valuable monument of late Baroque synagogue architecture, the only example of its kind in Masovia and one of the most significant in Poland. The Jewish cemetery contains the graves of Jaakow Icchak Ben Ascher and Symcha Bunim; both became pilgrimage destinations for Hasidim. The synagogue and cemetery offer different ways to explore the town’s religious heritage.
The present-day Church of St. Wojciech stands in Skrzyńsko, which is part of the Przysucha municipality. It was built between 1760 and 1768, funded by Karol Szydłowiecki. The church is considered the oldest Marian sanctuary in the Radom region. It houses the image of Our Lady of Staroskrzyńsko, to which many worshippers make pilgrimages. The construction period, patron and Marian image each give this site a distinct historical significance.
Forest landscapes, rivers and reservoirs
The Radomka and WÄ…zownica rivers, which flow through the municipality, help orient visitors geographically. Ruski BrĂłd also shows how closely descriptions of places are tied to the landscape: the village lies in the Garb Gielniowski uplands, within a bend of the Radomka River and in the heart of the extensive LasĂłw Przysuskich forest complex. Ruski BrĂłd is part of the Przysucha municipality.
In the southwest of the municipality lies the Lasów Przysuskich forest complex, which includes the “Puszcza u źródeł Radomki” nature reserve. The protected area preserves species-rich forests with a natural character. The rivers, uplands and forest complex thus provide different geographical reference points for understanding the municipality’s landscape.
The municipality’s tourist infrastructure includes accommodation options and the Topornia and Nieznamierowice reservoirs. Topornia is suitable for swimming and water sports. If you plan these activities, check local conditions and facilities separately.
A manor house nearby
In the vicinity of Przysucha, in Zbożenna, about six kilometres away, stands a manor house dating from the late 18th century, surrounded by a park. Comparing it with the manor house that houses the Kolberg Museum reveals a difference in age: the building in Zbożenna dates from the late 18th century, while the Dembiński family had the museum house built in the second half of the 19th century. Travellers interested in historic architecture can therefore see two buildings from different periods in the area.
