Planning a trip to Komorów can start with a simple question: are you most interested in the history of a garden city, or in the connection between architecture and greenery? The town lies on the Utrata, about 20 kilometres from the centre of Warsaw. Villa names, addresses and construction dates, along with specific features of the trees and park, give both interests a local focus.

Garden City and Its Origins

Komorów was laid out as a garden city in the 1920s. This period provides a clear framework for the town’s history, while individual villas date from both earlier and later years. This makes it possible to distinguish between two historical layers: the development of the town in the 1920s and the construction history of individual villas. This is a useful way to explore Komorów’s development: the garden city’s history provides the broader context, while the villas’ construction dates allow for closer comparison.

Protected Trees and Historic Park

Nearly 300 trees in Komorów are protected, including two historic avenues made up predominantly of linden trees. This is an approximate figure and may change. The Komorów forest settlement area also has a historic park with old ash trees, maples, chestnuts and sycamores. The avenues and the park reveal the town’s green side in different ways: lindens are the defining feature of the avenues, while several old tree species can be found in the park. If you are interested in the landscape, you can consider these two features separately rather than reducing the greenery to a single motif. This contrast between the linden-lined avenues and the variety of species in the historic park offers a tangible way to experience Komorów’s landscape.

Compare Villas by Construction Date

The villas’ construction history extends beyond the period when the garden city was established. Villa “Irusin” at Kolejowa 3 dates from 1913. Villa “Marysieńka” at Klonowa 18 was built between 1927 and 1929. Villas “Malutka Zachodnia i Wschodnia” at Lipowa 8 and 8A date from 1929. Villa “Złocienie” at Kolejowa 13 dates from 1931 to 1933. The construction dates therefore span the period from 1913 to 1933. Irusin is the earliest example, and Złocienie the latest. Marysieńka and the two Malutka villas share the date 1929, although work on Marysieńka began as early as 1927. This makes it possible to distinguish the houses by period rather than broadly assigning them all to the same construction phase.

Which Perspective Suits Your Stay?

When choosing what to focus on, consider this: would you like to explore Komorów primarily through its architectural history, or are you more interested in the relationship between its avenues and park? The construction dates make historical comparisons possible, while the green spaces offer a distinct landscape focus. If you are interested in both, the garden city’s history provides a common thread. You can choose the focus of your stay based on whether you are more interested in the development of individual villas or in the town’s different green features.
