Sarnaki’s historic sites include four cemeteries, a V-2 monument and buildings with a history of brewing and manor houses. A cycling route nearby adds another dimension. This geographical distinction is important for planning: the historic sites are in the destination itself, while the cycling route starts outside the town. Local history and cycling therefore appeal to different interests and can be treated as separate priorities.

Four Historic Cemeteries

Sarnaki has four historic cemeteries: the churchyard, the so-called Old Cemetery, the Jewish cemetery and the parish cemetery. The latter is still in use today. Historical significance and present-day use are therefore not mutually exclusive here: the parish cemetery is one of the four historic cemeteries and remains in use. The different names help distinguish the Old Cemetery and the parish cemetery as separate sites.

The V-2 Monument in the Market Square

A monument was unveiled in Sarnaki’s market square on 14 May 1995. It commemorates the successful recovery, for the Allied forces, of the V-2 rocket tested by the Germans in the region. The year 1995 dates the unveiling, not the event commemorated by the monument. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of the monument from the history of the recovery it commemorates.

Brewery and Manor House

The original industrial buildings of an old brewery can be seen in Sarnaki; their origins date back to the 18th century. Another perspective on the area’s architectural history is offered by the brick manor house. It was built in 1830, once belonged to the owners of Sarnaki, has since been converted and is now owned by the Sarnaki Forest District. The comparison highlights the brewery’s long history and the manor house’s specific construction date. The manor house’s former ownership can also be distinguished from its current ownership. The two examples represent different scales: original industrial buildings of an old brewery on the one hand, and a single brick manor house on the other.

Cycling Route Nearby

The “SKÓRZYNIEC” cycling route runs near Sarnaki. It is about 10 km long, marked in black and was established in 2022. Its starting point is in the northern part of Stare Hołowczyce. From there, the route runs across fields and hills and through the forests of Podlaski Przełom Bugu Landscape Park. It ends at a district road, where it connects to the Ziemi Łosickiej cycling route. Its approximate length and clearly identified starting point make it easy to plan the ride as a separate outing in the area. The route offers a different perspective from Sarnaki’s historic sites: it is experienced along a course through different types of landscape rather than through individual buildings or memorial sites. Local history and the cycling route can thus be considered separate priorities for a stay.
