Wschowa offers several distinct historical points of interest for a cultural trip: medieval town fortifications, architecture from different centuries and regional collections. The lapidarium’s visiting season and advance booking requirements should also be factored into your plans.

Town Walls and Bridge

Wschowa’s town walls are a valuable example of medieval urban fortifications. Surviving features include sections of wall, a gate tower, a moat and an embankment. In the 19th century, the fortifications were transformed into a promenade and gardens. Their history thus brings together the original fortifications and a later urban transformation.

Lwi Mostek acquired its present form in the second half of the 19th century, in the eclectic style. In the middle stands a sandstone lion figure, executed in the Rococo style and probably created toward the end of the 18th century. The bridge and sculpture therefore belong to different periods: the probably older figure is part of a structure shaped at a later date. Here, the chronology depends not on a single construction date, but on the relationship between the two.

Plan Your Visit: Lapidarium and Museum

The Lapidarium Rzeźby Nagrobnej is open to visitors from April 1 to November 2; it is closed on Sundays and Mondays during this period. A paid guided visit requires advance booking at least two days ahead; admission costs 50 złoty. Plan your visit around the season and closing days, and allow enough time to book in advance.

The Muzeum Ziemi Wschowskiej preserves regional collections in archaeology, ethnography, history and art history. A particular focus is the history of the royal town of Wschowa. The museum also promotes musical culture through temporary exhibitions, lectures, talks, concerts and meetings with renowned instrumentalists and soloists. Individual events and dates may vary. If you would like to include a particular concert or meeting in your trip, check the date.

Architecture and Churches in Wschowa

Biały Domek, also called Domek Mleczny (“Milk Pavilion”), is a notable example of modernist architecture. Kripplein Christi is a Protestant church complex dating from the early 17th century. The two buildings offer contrasting perspectives: one highlights modernist design, the other the history of an early modern church complex.
