Skwierzyna combines specific cycling routes with a distinctive fish theme and cultural heritage sites. For planning, you can easily choose between different interests: if you want to spend time outdoors, you can choose between an intermunicipal route with a specified length and a regional cycling route through several towns. Park Ryb focuses on fish species, rivers and fishing. Other attractions include a late Gothic church, a Jewish cemetery with its own history, and the Izba Pamięci Drogownictwa, whose visiting hours require special attention.

Cycling routes with different itineraries

The intermunicipal yellow cycling route starts at the Rynek in Skwierzyna, runs via Rakowo to Kolonia Brzozowiec and is 14.3 kilometres long. This gives you specific planning details: the route, starting point and total distance. The regional green Lubiatów–Krasne Dłusko cycling route passes through Wiejce, Krobielewko, Skrzynica, Nowy Dwór and Świniary within the municipality of Skwierzyna; it also passes the Skwierzyna Gaj viewpoint and the Rynek. Both routes include the Rynek, but in different ways: it is the starting point of the yellow route and a stop along the regional connection on the green route. When choosing a route, you can therefore distinguish between one with a specified length and a regional route passing through several towns in the municipality.

Park Ryb: Fish, habitats and rivers

Park Ryb features oversized models of fish, including carp, catfish and eel. Each figure has a sign with a detailed description of the species; an educational trail also covers fishing, the region and rivers. The park opened in 2019 and aims to teach visitors about fish, their natural habitats and their diets, with a particular focus on species found locally. Its focus ranges from individual species to the connections between habitat and diet, as well as the trail’s themes. Park Ryb Pojezierza Dobiegniewskiego in Skwierzyna is generally open to the public; check locally before your visit to see whether any restrictions are currently in place.

Cultural history and planning your visit

The parish church of St Nicholas, Bishop, is late Gothic and dates from the 15th century. Skwierzyna’s Jewish cemetery is on a hill historically known as Judenberg (“Jewish Hill”). As part of the “Przywrócić pamięć” (“Restore the Memory”) project, the cemetery was cleaned and restored in 2001–2002; information signs in Polish and English were installed on site. These offer two distinct ways to explore local history: at the church, its construction period and late Gothic style provide the context, while at the cemetery, the hill’s historical name and the restoration with multilingual information are key.

Visiting hours for the exhibits at Izba Pamięci Drogownictwa, at Gorzowska 17a, are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Other times can be arranged in advance with the person in charge. As hours may change, please confirm your visit with the institution beforehand.
