The Sobibór area combines a seasonal train service with several nearby memorial sites. The Sobibór Museum and Memorial Site are in the nearby village of Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór; Aleja Pamięci is located on the grounds of the former camp in nearby Sobibór. The train stops at Sobibór station in Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór. Two questions are therefore important when planning your trip: Which day works for the train service, and which thematic focus matters most to you?

Train: Check the Seasonal Operating Days

On the Chełm–Włodawa route, a train stops at Sobibór station in nearby Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór during the summer holidays, from the last weekend in June through the end of August, on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on 15 August. When choosing a date, take into account both the seasonal service period and the specific day of the week; 15 August is listed as an additional operating day. If you plan to use this train service for your trip, compare your travel date with the information and check the current timetable before departure, as the season and dates may change.

The Museum and Memorial Site

The Sobibór Museum and Memorial Site are in the nearby village of Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór, on provincial road 812 or 816. For travel by road, this village and road information provides a useful reference point; check the current access route before setting off. For travel by train, the relevant stop is Sobibór station. These two details provide different points of reference for getting there and can be matched to your chosen mode of transport.

A permanent exhibition about the Sobibór extermination camp opened at the nearby Sobibór Museum and Memorial Site in October 2020. It also focuses on the fates of individual victims. In this way, the exhibition connects the history of the camp with the lives of individual people. If you are planning a visit, check current visitor access in advance.

Aleja Pamięci: Names and History

Aleja Pamięci, established in 2003, is located on the grounds of the former camp in nearby Sobibór. Plaques bearing the names of people murdered in the camp stand alongside the rows of stones. Other plaques provide information about specific groups of victims, their origins and history. While the exhibition addresses the history of the camp and the fates of individual victims, the plaques along Aleja Pamięci connect names with information about selected groups, their origins and their history. The two memorial sites therefore take different approaches to these themes.

Accommodation and Trip Planning

First decide whether the seasonal train service or a memorial site will determine your travel date: for the train, check the operating days and current timetable; for the museum, check current visitor access. If travelling by road, check access to the museum and memorial site in advance.
