Two reservoirs covering a combined area of 14 hectares, the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity and the “Dolina Chodelki” route offer different reasons to spend time in Chodel. The waterfront is a focus for relaxation and several activities, while the church offers a cultural and historical attraction. The long-distance route passes through the town. Water, architectural history and route planning thus offer different reasons to take a closer look at Chodel.

Reservoirs and recreation

The two reservoirs lie among forests and cover a combined area of 14 hectares. They attract anglers, walkers on tourist trails and swimmers. Pedal boats can be rented in summer. Bear this seasonal option in mind when choosing your travel dates; if you plan to rent one, check in advance whether the rental service is currently operating. One reservoir in Chodel is surrounded by pine forests and wooded areas and is used for recreation. The waterside activities are thus set within a clearly described landscape of forest and woodland.

Parish church with architectural details

The Gothic-Renaissance Parish Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1541. Its 30-metre-high tower is crowned with a crown. The furnishings include an image of Our Lady of Loreto and a baptismal font dating from 1616. A sandstone tomb commemorates the church’s founder, Bernard Maciejowski, and his wife, Elżbieta. There are 75 years between the year of construction and the baptismal font; the dates therefore mark two different points in time. The tomb adds a specific reference to the founders to the history of the building and its furnishings.

There is also a grave of Austrian soldiers from the First World War in Chodel. It offers a historical point of interest distinct from the architectural and furnishing history of the parish church. If you are interested in the town’s history beyond church architecture, you can take this other historical landmark into account when planning your trip.

“Dolina Chodelki”: length, difficulty and surface

The “Dolina Chodelki” through-route is 51 kilometres long, is of significance beyond the local area and passes through Chodel. The route description, last updated in 2023, rates it as difficult and lists 18 kilometres of asphalt, 5 kilometres of paved surface and 28 kilometres of unpaved surface. The unpaved section is therefore longer than the asphalt and paved sections combined. When planning, bear in mind that 51 kilometres refers to the entire route; Chodel lies along it. The length, difficulty rating and breakdown of surfaces each offer a different indication of what to expect from the route as a whole.

Bicycle rental in Chodel

The Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Chodel operates a bicycle rental service. In its second season, the service, launched in 2025, offered ten bicycles with helmets for women, men and young people. As capacity may change, check in advance what is currently available if you plan to use the rental service during your trip.
