Blacksmithing is a defining part of a visit to Wojciechów, but there is more to explore, from historic architecture to outdoor routes of varying lengths. The Wieża Ariańska, the Kuźnia Romana Czernieca workshop and the gallery associated with it offer different perspectives on the craft. For outdoor activity, you can choose between a short Nordic walking loop and considerably longer hiking and cycling routes. This lets you tailor your stay around culture, distance or both, without having to turn the individual destinations into a set itinerary.

Blacksmithing in a Tower, Workshop and Gallery

The Wieża Ariańska is a fortified residential building commissioned by J. Pilecki, Starost of Lublin, between 1520 and 1530. It houses the Muzeum Kowalstwa, described as Poland’s only blacksmithing museum. This brings architectural history and the theme of blacksmithing together in one place.

A visit to the Kuźnia Romana Czernieca includes a tour of a workshop. Agricultural equipment is repaired there, horses are shod, and handcrafted metalwork is forged by hand. The Szlak Ginących Zawodów connects the museum with the smithy; the route also includes a horseshoeing demonstration at the Kuźnia. At the gallery next to the workshop, you can view the master blacksmith’s work and buy lucky horseshoes and other items he has made. The museum, workshop and gallery each have a distinct focus: blacksmithing as a subject, the craft in practice and finished pieces.

A Short Loop and Two Long Routes

The green Nordic walking loop starts in Wojciechów, is 4 kilometres long and takes about an hour. This gives you a specific timeframe for a shorter outing. By contrast, the red-marked hiking trail along the western ridge is 60 kilometres long and runs from Kazimierz Dolny to Lublin via Wojciechów. Only one section of this longer route passes through the village.

The red-marked Lublin–Kazimierz Dolny cycling route also runs through Wojciechów and is 62 kilometres long in total. At 60 and 62 kilometres, the two longer routes are similar in length, but differ in how you travel: one is a hiking trail, the other a cycling route. Together with the loop, they offer a clear choice between an outing that takes about an hour and two routes whose length makes them longer tours.

Architectural History and Artistic Metalwork

The late-Baroque wooden Church of Saint Theodore in Wojciechów was built in 1725. Next to the Wieża Ariańska is Aleja Zasłużonych Kowali, which opened in 2019. Its railings were made as part of an artistic blacksmithing competition. The church, the fortified residential building and the work along the avenue offer different ways to explore the village’s architecture and craftwork.

ZOO Wojciechów Nearby

On the edge of the village is ZOO Wojciechów, covering four hectares. It is home to several dozen exotic animal species, including lions, pumas, kangaroos, camels, donkeys, llamas, alpacas and various species of goats and sheep. There are also numerous waterbirds and land birds. Children can enjoy a large playground; a spacious rest area with tables and benches and a fire pit are also available. The zoo adds another possible focus to the cultural and trail-related attractions, without needing to be treated as part of the blacksmithing sites.

Choose the Focus of Your Stay

If you are looking for a hotel in Wojciechów, it may help to start by deciding which aspect of the village you want to focus on during your trip: blacksmithing at the museum, workshop and gallery, the architectural history or one of the routes. At about an hour, the Nordic walking loop offers the clearest short timeframe; the 60- and 62-kilometre distances mark considerably longer routes. The zoo on the edge of the village adds animals and play options for children to the mix.
