Składowice offers several perspectives side by side: the church’s architecture, its historical connection to Johann Jonston, and three routes with different focuses. This lets you distinguish between local and architectural history and nature routes on foot or by bike when planning your trip. When searching for a holiday rental, you can use these as a guide: the key question is whether local culture or the routes matter more to you when choosing your destination.
The church and historical traces
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Składowice is a filial church of the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Mleczno. The small, contemporary building has a single nave and a rectangular floor plan; it has no separately defined presbytery and no tower. Inside, sculptural Stations of the Cross encircle the space. The rectangular floor plan and lack of a presbytery concern the layout, while the lack of a tower affects the exterior; the Stations of the Cross, meanwhile, shape the interior. This gives you two different ways to explore the church: its spatial form and the design of the Stations of the Cross.
The history of the village extends beyond the church, too. The physician, naturalist and historian Johann Jonston lived in Składowice Castle. This gives the village’s history a biographical dimension alongside the church building; his three roles span medicine, the study of nature and historical writing. Składowice also has a historic rural settlement pattern with archaeological layers. The municipal cemetery, including its boundary wall, dates from 1925 and is now the cemetery of the Roman Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Mleczno.
Routes on foot and by bike
There are three different route options for exploring on foot and by bike. The green forest trail passes through Bolesławiec, Chocianów, Lisiec, Krzeczyn Wielki, Lubin, Składowice, Toszowice, Stara Rudna, Rozłogi, Miłogoszcz, Górki and Chobienia. A nature trail highlighting interesting natural sites connects Siedlce, Księginice and Składowice. The blue cycling route around Lubin passes through Składowice and Zalesie. These differences help you choose based on activity and theme: natural sites are the focus of the nature trail, cycling is explicitly indicated for the blue route, and the green forest trail covers a sequence of twelve named places. If you plan to follow one of the routes, check its current course and route markers in advance.
A chestnut avenue by the castle, park and manor complex
A chestnut avenue also runs alongside the road leading from the south to the castle, park and manor complex in Składowice. This southern road connection adds a landscape feature to the architectural and settlement-related points of interest. The avenue and the routes tell different spatial stories: the row of trees follows a road to the complex, while the three routes place Składowice along paths that include other place names.
