Trójca combines a clearly identifiable geographical location with specific historical themes. The parish church of St Peter and Paul, a no longer used Protestant cemetery, and local forms of remembrance provide several distinct points of reference for the area. When planning a stay, you can first decide whether landscape, architectural history, or local remembrance should be the focus of your trip.

Location and road connections

Trójca is a village about 1.8 km long in the Izera Foothills, located in the eastern part of the Zgorzelec Plain. These two landscape references place the village in its broader geographical setting, while the approximate length describes the settlement itself. For travel planning, these are two different scales which together give a more precise picture than a single landscape designation. In addition, National Road No. 30, on the Zgorzelec–Jelenia Góra route, passes through Trójca. This road information complements the geographical location with a clearly defined route through the village.

Parish church and architectural history

The parish church of St Peter and Paul was built around the middle of the 13th century and renovated in 1512. In the second half of the 17th century, its vaults were decorated with stucco; the church was restored in 1809 and 1827. This chronology helps distinguish the building’s history from later interventions: the stucco decoration specifically concerns the vaults, while 1809 and 1827 are restorations. Alongside the early building phases, there is a specific architectural detail and two clearly dated restoration works.

The cemetery by the church

The Protestant cemetery is also located by the church. It dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and is no longer in use. Its period of origin is therefore several centuries later than the construction of the parish church. The two features of the village are connected spatially, but belong to different historical periods: the medieval history of the church’s construction is followed by a cemetery from a later period. This distinction helps prevent the history of the church area from being reduced to a single era.

Local remembrance

The Izba Pamięci at the Szkoła Podstawowa im. Osadników Wojskowych in Trójca displays exhibits relating to aspects of life in Trójca and the surrounding villages before, during, and after the war. Unlike the church’s history, which can be traced through building and restoration phases, this subject focuses on the lives of people in the village and the surrounding communities. The two perspectives therefore stand side by side: the history of a specific building and the everyday experiences of the population across several periods.

The Dzień Męczeństwa Kresowian is also held regularly in Trójca; the Stowarzyszenie „Strażnicy Pamięci Ziemi Zgorzeleckiej“ organizes the event. Unlike the collection, which brings together several periods of life thematically, the memorial day is a recurring occasion. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific event date in advance.
