Kiełczówek lies on the Widawa. Its character encompasses the history of a palace and garden complex, traces of a manor farm, and a preserved spatial settlement structure. The project area and its immediate surroundings also include floodplain habitats, as well as specific leisure facilities in the town. Those looking for a holiday apartment can decide whether local history, nature or leisure activities should shape their stay in Kiełczówek.

Palace, Garden and Manor Farm

Around the middle of the 18th century, Kiełczówek had an impressive palace and garden complex with a summer palace. Canals from the former garden complex have survived; the remains of the guest houses are preserved in the walls of present-day buildings. The canals reflect the garden design, while the wall remains are traces of the former guest houses. Thus, the town’s history includes a variety of architectural and landscape features.

A large manor farm extended south of the Widawa. Some buildings from the early 20th century have survived. A row of lime trees along the Widawa has also been preserved as part of the manor farm. Kiełczówek was originally a manor colony. Despite some reduction in the built-up area, the town retains its historical spatial layout. Its historical character therefore encompasses not only individual surviving buildings but also the settlement’s spatial form. The manor farm lay south of the Widawa; at the same time, the row of lime trees along the river is part of the manor farm. The river thus provides both a location reference for the former complex and a point of reference for a surviving feature of the historic manor landscape in the town.

Floodplain Habitats and Leisure Facilities

Natural habitats in the project area and its immediate surroundings include floodplain meadows of type 6440 (All. Cnidion dubii). The project area also includes hardwood floodplain forests of ash, elm and oak (Ass. Ficario-Ulmetum minoris). Despite the disturbed age and species structure of the tree stands, these forests are relatively well preserved. The scope is specified precisely: the floodplain meadows are noted for the project area and its immediate surroundings, while the forest type is noted for the project area.

The town has a playground and outdoor fitness equipment or an outdoor fitness area. These leisure facilities complement the historical and natural themes with specific amenities. At the Kiełczówek weir, the concrete structure includes abutments, piers and a sill; there is also a footbridge with steps. Renovation of the weir was completed in 2017.

Two Historical Periods

Two reference points are useful for placing the history in context: the palace and garden complex with its summer palace dates to the middle of the 18th century; some surviving manor farm buildings date from the early 20th century. These different periods help explain the historical traces as several phases in the town’s development rather than as a single period of construction.
