Wolimierz lies in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains, a few kilometres north of Świeradów-Zdrój. The village is known for its hospitality and its cultural and community activities. To get your bearings, it is worth looking at two things: a discovery game with themed routes and a cultural landscape whose traces range from traditional houses to Stacja Wolimierz.
Four themed routes for exploring the village
The Tajemnice Wolimierza discovery game is divided into four themed routes: Natura (Nature), Historia (History), Kultura (Culture), and Społeczność (Community). You can explore each route on its own or freely combine them. Wolimierskie Tajemnice comprises 20 discovery stops in total. This means there is both a choice of individual themes and a total of 20 stops to explore. The cultural route offers especially concrete options: its prepared activities include films, galleries, and studios. Completing the full route can take up to five hours. If you plan to take the entire route, allow for the possible duration; the content and time estimate may change.
Traditional houses and preserved architectural forms
The preserved old, traditional houses are among Wolimierz’s greatest attractions. Renovated and newly built houses also retain traditional architectural features. The focus is therefore both on older buildings and on how traditional forms are preserved in renovated and newly constructed buildings. The condition of individual houses may change.
Cultural history and events at Stacja Wolimierz
Stacja Wolimierz has a notable history: in 1993, the Fundacja na Rzecz Wspierania Kultur Alternatywnych i Ekologicznych saved the listed building of the former Wolimierz railway station from demolition. Every summer, artists, craftspeople, organic farmers, and people from different walks of life gather at Stacja. The three-day programme includes workshops, talks, performances, and concerts. If you would like to plan your stay around this gathering, check the dates and current programme in advance.
The Jarmark Wiejski Izerski, a market for handicrafts and healthy food, is held in the meadow at Stacja Wolimierz. Here, too, it is advisable to check the current event schedule before your trip. Teatr Kliniki Lalek, relocated from Wrocław, is considered the core of the cultural community that has grown in Wolimierz since the early 1990s. If you are interested in theatre, check current performance dates separately. A disused railway station building in Wolimierz was converted into a gallery. In 2013, Wolimierz received a special award for the best spatial and cultural organisation of a village.
For planning purposes, there are two different timeframes to bear in mind: completing the cultural route can take up to five hours, while the annual gathering at Stacja Wolimierz runs for three days. If the route or the summer gathering is central to your stay, check the route details or event dates in advance.
