Olszyna combines distinctive church architecture with a unique motorsport scene. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the churches, the motor park and the route to the forest edge as separate highlights. This makes it easier to decide whether architectural history, a motorsport event or a hike will be the focus of your stay before looking for a hotel.
Churches with different architectural styles
The Neo-Gothic church, built of red brick, was constructed in 1897. It once served as a Protestant church; today it serves the parish of św. Józefa Oblubieńca NMP. Its tower defines Olszyna’s skyline. Inside are a Baroque-Classical baptismal font from the 18th to 19th century and electrical fittings from the 19th century.
By contrast, the Church of Podwyższenia Krzyża Św. in Olszyna is an east-facing, single-nave stone building. It is mentioned in documents dating from 1314. Its wooden, polychrome coffered ceiling dates from 1614. Christ, the Apostles, John the Baptist and the Angel of Peace are depicted among the floral ornaments. While the red brick and tower of the Neo-Gothic church shape the townscape, here the focus is on the orientation, single-nave stone construction and richly decorated ceiling. East-facing means that the church is oriented toward the east, making its alignment easier to understand.
Palace history and motorsport
The Baroque palace is also part of the town’s history: built in 1704, it was restored in the 19th century and destroyed by fire in 1959; it was never rebuilt. This sequence of construction, restoration and destruction offers a different historical perspective from the churches’ architectural and decorative details.
The Olszyna Motopark offers a different travel theme. Its nearly 30-kilometre off-road race course hosts the international competitions King Of Poland and GORM24 every year. The site covers 502,000 square metres. The course length and area describe different dimensions of the motor park. If you are planning your trip around a competition, check the exact dates for your travel period.
Route to the forest edge and views in the municipality
A hiking route leads from the main road, ul. Wolności, along a footpath beside the bypass and reaches a forest edge after about two kilometres; a blue trail runs there. The approximate distance takes you to this forest edge. Before setting off, check the path’s condition and markings on site.
Outside the town of Olszyna, but within the municipality, lies Zapusta with Rajsko Castle. From its tall tower, the view extends across wooded slopes and a reservoir to Czocha Castle, reflected in the waters of Jezioro Leśniańskie.
