Poręba lies in the Porębnik Valley, which cuts into the Bystrzyckie Mountains towards the 690-metre-high Przełęcz nad Porębą Pass. Its location combines a valley setting with a clearly defined high point. Two cycling routes pass through Poręba, and a walking route runs from Długopole-Zdrój through Poręba to the pass. This gives you specific routes and places to consider when planning your visit.

Cycling: two routes through Poręba

A cycling route of about 37 kilometres runs from Bystrzyca Kłodzka via Stara Bystrzyca, Wójtowice, Młoty, Spalona and Poręba to Długopole-Zdrój, then back to Bystrzyca Kłodzka. Poręba is therefore part of a longer route connecting several places before returning to its starting point.

A second route is about 45 kilometres long and runs from Bystrzyca Kłodzka through Poręba to Długopole-Zdrój. At first, it follows international cycling route ER 2; from Poręba, it continues along a green route. The main differences to consider when comparing the two options are that one is listed as about 37 rather than about 45 kilometres and returns to Bystrzyca Kłodzka, while the second ends in Długopole-Zdrój.

Walking to the pass

The Długopole-Zdrój–Poręba–Przełęcz nad Porębą route is 5.5 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It reaches the 690-metre-high pass, whose surroundings are considered particularly scenic. The walking route is not signposted; access is via a road. If you plan to take this route, you should therefore check the directions in advance and not expect to find signposts along the way.

The cycling routes and walking trail have different points of focus: for the cycling routes, distance and route are the key points of comparison, while the walking trail offers a specific walking time and the pass as its destination. The Porębnik Valley and the pass also give the routes a shared geographical setting, though they do not follow the same course.

Cultural monuments in Poręba and traces at the pass

The Church of St. Sebastian in Poręba is protected as a monument and is included in both the monument register and the list of historic monuments. Beside the church stands a stone crucifixion group dating from the 18th or 19th century. Poręba is also home to a penitential cross. Together, these three different features offer another way to explore the place: from a protected church building to a religious stone group and a cross monument.

The area around the pass also bears traces of history. To the north and south of the pass, the remains of two small combat bunkers lie hidden in the vegetation. They were built by the Germans in the 1930s. Alongside the scenic surroundings, these offer a glimpse of concrete historical remains from that period.

When planning your visit, you can choose between two cycling routes with different courses, the walking trail to the pass, and the cultural monuments in Poręba. Those focusing on a route will find information about its distance and destination; those interested in history can also include the church, crucifixion group and penitential cross, as well as the bunker remains at the pass.
