Szarocin is shaped by the distinct aspects of its historic palace complex and its connection to Rudawski Landscape Park. The palace tells the story of several building phases; the park’s history ranges from a geometrical garden to its later redesign. The Szarocin Forest District also includes areas of the landscape park and its buffer zone. These themes offer specific points of reference for considering Szarocin as a travel destination.

Palace Complex: Building History and Architecture

The palace was built in the early 17th century and remodelled in the Baroque style around 1720. The three-storey building has a rectangular plan, side projections and a columned portico on the main façade. A hipped roof with a belvedere completes the building. The projecting sections divide the façade, while the portico adds a column-supported feature to its front. The building’s character can therefore be described not only by its style, but also by its overall form and façade elements.

The complex also includes outbuildings from further building phases: they were built in the early and around the middle of the 19th century, and remodelled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Figural and decorative stucco work depicting bucolic scenes against a landscape backdrop has been preserved in the palace. The building history, later alterations to the outbuildings and decorated interiors represent different aspects of the complex. The palace is used for social care.

Garden and Park Through the Years

Remnants of a formal geometrical garden, laid out in the 17th century and transformed into a landscape park in the mid-19th century, have been preserved at the palace complex. The surviving remnants thus point to two different garden designs: first a formal layout, later transformed into a landscape park. The park in Szarocin is listed in the heritage register and heritage inventory. The garden’s development and heritage status add the history of its designed surroundings to the palace’s building history.

Location and Landscape Setting

The palace and park complex, along with its associated buildings, is located in the eastern part of Szarocin, about 0.5 km south of the Kamienna Góra–Kowary main road. This describes the complex’s location within the village and its approximate position in relation to the named road.

Areas of Rudawski Landscape Park and its buffer zone lie within the Szarocin Forest District, part of the Kamienna GĂłra Forest District. The protected area designation applies to these areas, not to Szarocin as a whole. Within the jurisdiction of the Forest District, the local section of the landscape park covers 3,094.58 ha; the buffer zone covers a further 85.36 ha. These figures refer to areas within the Forest District, not to the village alone. Rudawski Landscape Park includes, among other things, communities of meadows, pastures and peat bogs in the wider region.

For your travel plans, you can distinguish between two main points of interest: the building and garden history of the local complex, and the protected area’s landscape setting in the forest district and wider surroundings. These details connect the themes without extending the park’s presence to the whole village.
