Staniszów brings together architectural history and landscape in a compact area: a Gothic church, several residences, viewpoints and easy hiking trails offer different reasons to visit. When planning your trip, the question is where to focus: would you like to explore historic architectural styles and their development, or put granite rocks, elevation and panoramas at the center of your visit? The town’s sights offer concrete options for both interests.

Church and Residences

Kościół Przemienienia Pańskiego is a Gothic church dating from around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Pałac Staniszów tells a different architectural story: the manor house was initially built in the Renaissance style in the second half of the 16th century. In 1787, at the behest of Prince Henryk XXXVIII of Reuss, it was extensively remodeled as a Baroque residence. In Staniszów, you can therefore encounter both a church from the late Middle Ages and a manor house whose Baroque appearance dates to a renovation in the late 18th century.

Pałac Staniszów is also a venue for cultural events such as concerts, vernissages and exhibitions organized by Fundacja Forum Staniszów. The landscape park around the manor house includes the surrounding forests, the striking rock formations of Góra Witosza and the artificial castle ruins on Grodna Hill. Architecture and landscape are therefore not simply separate themes here: the park incorporates forests, rocks and ruins into its design.

Pałac Na Wodzie in Staniszów Dolny

Another residence is Pałac Na Wodzie in Staniszów Dolny. The estate dates from the late 18th century and is set in picturesque surroundings with a pond and landscape park. According to chroniclers’ accounts, Pałac Na Wodzie, formerly Dwór Staniszów Dolny, was built in the second half of the 18th century; Heinrich XXXVIII of Reuss began construction in 1786. Pałac Na Wodzie is located in the Jelenia Góra Valley Cultural Park, also known as the “Valley of Palaces and Gardens.”

The two manor houses are easy to distinguish chronologically: at Pałac Staniszów, the focus is on the extensive renovation of 1787, while at Pałac Na Wodzie it is on the start of construction in 1786. If you are interested in architectural history, this distinction offers a clear way to explore the two residences without conflating their different histories.

Hills, Rocks and Viewpoints

Staniszów lies in the Wzgórza Łomnickie hills, in the Kotliny Jeleniogórskiej region. Góra Witosza, at 484 meters, is a hill in the village known for its distinctive granite rocks and panoramic views of the Karkonosze. Easy hiking trails lead up, including the yellow trail from Staniszów. If you would like to combine scenery with exercise, this route is a practical way to focus on the rock formations and views.

Another viewpoint is near the ruins of Zamku Księcia Henryka in Staniszów. The site can also be reached from Marczyce and Sosnówka. The artificial castle ruins on Góra Grodna add to the area’s historic sites: they were built in 1806 and served as a hunting lodge. A visit to Staniszów thus brings together different periods, from the architectural history of the residences to an artificial ruin from the early 19th century.

There are two clear themes to choose from. If you are interested in architecture and cultural history, the church, the two residences and Pałac Staniszów’s use as an event venue offer starting points. If your focus is more on the landscape, Góra Witosza and its easy hiking trails lead to rock formations and panoramic views; the castle ruins on Góra Grodna provide a historical contrast.
