At the central Plac Reymonta, civic remembrance, celebrations, and the history of a former tramway come together. Tuszyn also offers a historic church, a questing trail, and the Oceanik indoor swimming pool as further points of interest during your stay.

City History at Plac Reymonta

Plac Reymonta is in the center of Tuszyn. Important civic celebrations take place there and have taken place there in the past, including anniversaries of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May, the city’s Christmas celebration, and celebrations marking Tuszyn’s 550th and 600th anniversaries. A memorial stone in the square commemorates the 60th anniversary of the award of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Władysław Stanisław Reymont.

The square is also connected with the history of transport: from 1916 to 1978, tram line 42 ran between Łódź and Tuszyn; in 1931, a terminus for the line was established at Plac Reymonta. This is a historical point of reference and a different way of understanding the square than through its civic celebrations and memorials.

Another memorial site is the Jewish cemetery in Tuszyn. It is marked with a memorial stone and an information board. For those interested in cultural history, this site adds its own distinct focus to the commemorative history of Plac Reymonta.

Church, Architecture and Culture

The church of the Parafia Świętego Witalisa Męczennika in Tuszyn was built in 1860–1862. It was later expanded in 1927 to a design by Oskar Sosnowski, in simplified Neo-Romanesque forms. Its construction history therefore includes both its 19th-century construction and a later 20th-century expansion.

The furnishings also offer specific cultural and historical details: the main altar features an image of the Mother of God known as Tuszyńska. The church also has an old mechanical pipe organ and three bronze bells. The construction phases, altarpiece, and furnishings are different aspects through which to explore the history of the church building.

The Miejskie Centrum Kultury im. Wł. St. Reymonta in Tuszyn organizes cultural and entertainment events in the Gmina Tuszyn. Its activities therefore extend beyond individual sites associated with the city’s history and provide a cultural connection across the municipality. If you would like to include events in your travel plans, look for dates that fit your stay.

Routes in and Around Tuszyn

The “Dzieje Tuszyna – szlakiem zabytków” questing trail runs through Tuszyn. Its name connects the town’s history with the theme of historic monuments. This is distinct from routes that run around Tuszyn: two sections of the 184 km Szlak Okrężny Wokół Łodzi hiking trail have a combined length of 38 km and run around Tuszyn. The 38 km refers to both sections together; 184 km is the length of the entire hiking trail.

The Łódzki Szlak Konny also runs partly around Tuszyn. This means a questing trail through the town and routes in the surrounding area offer different geographical perspectives. The Tuszyn-Las garden city project also included plans for four parks: J. Piłsudskiego, J. Kilińskiego, Wolności, and Olszynki. These names are part of the settlement’s planning history.

Oceanik Indoor Swimming Pool

The “Oceanik” indoor swimming pool in Tuszyn has a sauna area; the facility also includes a salt cave and a graduation tower. The sauna area is open from 14:00 Monday to Friday and from 10:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. At other times, an advance arrangement by phone is possible. If you plan to use the sauna area, take these hours into account when planning your day.
