Three different topics offer ways to explore Wodzierady: the history of a training centre from the Second World War, the architectural style of the Dworek w Wodzieradach manor house, and the Otwarta Strefa Aktywności. They appeal to different interests: local history, architecture, and opportunities for play and exercise. Depending on which aspect you focus on, different details come to the fore.

A training centre at the edge of the village

During the Second World War, a training centre for girls was located at the edge of Wodzierady, on the road leading out towards Łask. It was housed in three identical wooden buildings on brick foundations. Under the guidance of instructors, young German women learned how to run a household and carry out various tasks at the nearby estate. The training thus combined household management with practical work at the estate. The place of learning and the location of the work should be distinguished: the training centre’s buildings were in Wodzierady, while the estate was nearby. The story therefore includes both the specific accommodation and the different tasks undertaken by the trainees.

Timber, brick and a shingle roof at the manor house

The Dworek w Wodzieradach manor house is a larch-timber log building, constructed half of wood and half of brick. A log building is a structure made of interlocking timbers; in this manor house, an equal share of brick is also used. Another defining feature is the broken Polish roof covered with shingles. The roof shape and the covering material describe different features: one refers to the form of the roof, the other to its covering. Visitors interested in architecture will find a clear focus here, distinct from the history of the training centre: at the manor house, the building’s form takes centre stage. Wood and brick each make up half of the manor house; by contrast, the three identical training-centre buildings were wooden buildings on brick foundations.

Play, table activities and fitness

The Otwarta Strefa Aktywności is located by the municipal office in Wodzierady. In 2019, it comprised a playground with play equipment, a relaxation zone with a table for chess and draughts and a table tennis table, as well as an outdoor fitness area with exercise equipment. The facilities thus cater to different kinds of leisure activities: play, board games and table tennis, as well as outdoor exercise. In 2019, the facility was open to residents of the Wodzierady municipality and summer visitors staying in the municipality. If you are planning to visit the area today, check its availability in advance.

The three topics offer different perspectives on Wodzierady. The training centre is about historical use and everyday learning, while the manor house is about architecture. The leisure area, in turn, is a distinct focus for activities. When planning your visit, you can choose whether to focus more on local history, architectural styles or leisure opportunities.
